A2 Portuguese Language Certificate course

I already passed the actual CIPLE exam but I look forward to visiting the new “B2 Portuguese Language Certificate course” thread after the government rug pulls the language requirement too

Anybody got any recommendations for schools that are:

  • Not on the document previously posted in this thread
  • Have the official A2 Government accepted accreditation
  • Isn’t thousands of Euros per person?

Thanks all!

Have you tried to register PLA offered by government before?

Where did you get the information “waiting 2-3 years…”?

I registered PLA courses in three different centers nea and got in all 3 within weeks. I picked one and had to cancel 2 of them. Paid 22 euros, finished the course&exam, and had the certificate in hand. Cheap and effective solution!

Was this online or in person? Can you please guide, how to register?

I’ve heard the opposite about that certificate and its eligibility for citizenship applications, but would be happy to hear I was wrong

If you have the time, it’s much safer and significantly faster to do the A2 CIPLE, rather than spending 150 hours—provided you can secure an appointment.

We tried to enrol for over an year without success, maybe it was timing due to influx of lots of Ukranians. Not sure about the situation today, my case was 3 years ago.. Good to hear that someone took advantage of PLA

Only if you already speak Portuguese. Very few people could get from zero to A2 level with less than 150 hours study.

Hi, both attorneys I interviewed before proceeding with application have confirmed to us that people with intellectual special needs are exempt from the language certificate as well as age or school/work status requirements which would normally apply to dependent children. Only requirement is 14 days presence. My son has is an adult with Down syndrome and we received his card without any issue. You might wish to check.

I guess I will find out if I can still apply in March 2026.

Has anyone had experience with eLanguages (CENFIC.pt) or Portuguese Lab for the PLA language course?
Are they reliable? Will the course be accepted for the Portuguese Language Requirement A2 for nationality?

For sure. Could be done, but unless you’ve learned a second language before (esp Romance) and know how to approach it, it would require abnormally good concentration skills to start from scratch and do well in 150 hours. Maybe you’d scrape through with a pass if you were lucky. I did the test in May and didn’t think it was that hard in the end, but I’d been studying on and off for about four years.

When I was approaching this language thing I figured that I could possibly get to A2 exam level faster than 150hrs but to achieve that I’d have to pay some good private tutor not less than for the 150hrs A2 cert course. And would go a bit louco in the process. So I went for the A2 cert course anyway..

I think that’s right. I think some people could pass the test with 150 hours work, but the average person who isn’t interested in languages and just doing it as a chore would find it a struggle to concentrate and absorb everything in that limited time. You’d need a good teacher, and that’s hard to find. And the reality is you need to do things outside of class like listen to native Portuguese being spoken on TV, podcasts, on the street - I don’t think 150 hours includes that.

Just to be clear, it didn’t take me 4 years just to get to A2. By the time I did the test, I had already been taking B2 classes for a while so was well past the CIPLE level. I was always interested in getting beyond A2 and being able to function day to day in Portuguese, so that kept me motivated.

Cheers. I also signed up to do the PLA 150 language course with ELanguages. I checked with my lawyer, CENFIC is on the qualifica list, and also the new year discount was nice, and it has VAT included. Other centers have it on the side, making the price actually higher than theirs.
I believe that they are relatively new, but they are based in Lisbon and do some activities in Lisbon, which works great for me.

I took about 40 hours of one-on-one private classes and spent another 80–100 hours studying on my own. Because my family is Spanish, it was a bit easier, and I passed on the first try

Hi, did you end up using GetA2? My lawyer recommended them because they have an express version with no scheduling limitations that presumably should award the certificate before the new citizenship law is enacted.

What date range are your lawyers projecting for the law to change?

I contacted them, and they use SIGO not PLA. Some lawyers say that is okay, some do not.

Did you find any self-paced course or course that can be completed within 3-4 weeks and counts as a PLA?
