A2 Portuguese Language Certificate course

Edpro modules do not create any problems. The tests at the end of each chapter are fairly easy if you attend the courses. But attendance is important.

To reassure you about the EdPro course, the tests are not done under exam conditions and are far less demanding than the basic requirement to turn up and stay awake for four days a week stretched over nearly three months. The tests are tightly focused on the immediate previous ten days’ classes. There are no surprises. You can use an online conjugator, your course notes, and indeed an online translator with impunity. If you have two screens open then completing the tests is - I dare to say it - trivial and absolutely not a reason to avoid the EdPro course.

Nobody failed our course. It was made very clear that if you hadn’t been thrown out for non-participation over the duration of the course then you would get the certificate. Everyone improved their Portuguese but the standard of fluency by the end was extremely varied indeed. I achieved my aim - getting the Certificate for citizenship - and the fact I can now ask for items in the CTT, visit the hospital and not appear pathetic, and return packages to Amazon in Portuguese is a bonus.

I will add that having tests in the Edpro course is not a given, it depends on the professor. I recently completed the Edpro A1/A2 course and we did not have a single exam in our course.

Has anyone taken the course with NIALP? They seem legit but I dont know anyone who has taken the class with them vs EdPro. I want to make sure they issue the certificate at the end. And I am wondering if they give exams since it seems like EdPro has dropped the need for exams. Nailp has a schedule that works better for me. Thanks

For those who took the online course for citizenship with EdPro or other providers, were you required to have a residency permit to enroll? I tried to enroll in several courses that waive the exam with CIPLA Master, etc. They all required a residency permit. Since I am American living in the US without a Portuguese residency permit, they would not let me in the classes!

Do you have a Portuguese residency permit?

Do you already have Portuguese residency? I was told I could not enroll in the classes that waive the exam, but looks like you cannot with residency.

I can 100% vouch for @edusetpt .

My wife and I are based in Singapore so the time zone isn’t great and we travel ALOT for work so the EduSetpt team have put together a flexible timetable to accommodate our workload , we are taking private lessons and need to complete 150h online and then Once complete we will get the official certificate to apply for citizenship, without the exam!

They also offer daily group classes which are really cost effective for those that have the time to commit! Feel free to connect with @edusetpt on LinkedIn and Joana Soares will answer all your questions and put together the best program for you!

Yes these classes are intended to replace the Portuguese exam required for citizenship. This is why they require a residence permit. If you just want to learn Portuguese there are much better, more flexible and cheaper options. Private tutors can be found on Reddit and FB charging €10-15/hour

@CLF
The PLA providers receive EU funding, which is why they require residency cards from students. Think of the 700 euro (or 2x or 3x or whatever you are quoted nowadays) you pay as rent seekers’ profit. The same PLA classes are provided for free in Portugal.

Many on this forum have reported being able to take online PLA classes with just NIF numbers. Perhaps it means the venders did not collect EU money on these people, but who knows. It comes down to supply and demand. If all the vendors tell you no, I suppose you’ll just have to wait until you receive your residency card. Or actually learn Portuguese and take the A2 exam, which you can do now.

I see, thanks, I was trying to avoid the exam since it’s hard to get a spot in the US, but I do want to learn Portuguese.

Thanks again

I see, thanks. Guess I’ll take the exam then. Was trying to avoid the exam since it’s hard to get a spot in the US, but a residency permit is not an option right now.

Thanks again

The thing is there is a group of people eligible for citizenship with A2 Portuguese even without residency: grandchildren of Portuguese citizens.

Just out of interest, why do you want this A2 certificate now if you are at least five years away from applying for citizenship? My experience earlier this year with the online 150-hour course is that it will get you the certificate but it is not the most effective way of actually learning Portuguese if that’s your goal. I feel these courses are aimed specifically at people actively wanting the A2 certificate for imminent or eventual citizenship applications. So, why would you want to do one of these courses anyway if you’re at least five years away from this? There are better ways of actually learning Portuguese. I’m not having a go at you and you don’t have to answer, it’s just a question that came into my mind when reading your problem.

If they’re a grandchild of Portuguese, they can apply immediately once they have the A2 cert.

Learn something new every day

The residence card isn’t required for the private courses. I received my certificate with no issues after I took the course with CIPLE Master, and I don’t have my residency card yet.

I am applying for citizenship as a grandchild of a Portuguese citizen. In order to apply, the language certificate is required along with proof of my grandparent’s citizenship.

This seems really weird. So you can sit and watch 150 hours of video and maybe 10 hours of actual instruction and that’s it? it seems like a great way to check the box without learning anything?
