Just got our SEF biometric appts for March 9 in Coimbra. OUr lawyer called us today with openings. She said they had openings from January - March. She advised us for March because we have apostillized (?) documents that have now expired & the state of HI is incredibly slow in apostillizing.
We applied November 2021 and were pre-approved May 2022.

Hello. When did you get your pre-approval please? My family got pre-approved in August 2022.

And we submitted our application November 29, 2021.

Really frustrating I still don’t have preapproval to be able to get an appt here. Ridiculous

Or you could be like some of us who have been sitting on preapproval for years and never get invited… Seems if you get left behind, they never come back for you.

I went ahead for the earliest available dates that worked for me travel-wise, even though my apostilles are not up-to-date.
I figure it’d be best to do the appt. as early as possible with the current pack, and then later mail over any docs that SEF may (or may not) ask for.

Just for reference, my timeline:
Submission Oct 2021
Pre-approvals Jan-Feb 2022
Invitation for biometrics Dec 16th, 2022
Appt. booked for Jan 2023

Now working on getting all the certificates and records…
Anyone could possibly help to confirm that FBI background check by eDO through one of the FBI-approved channelers works fine?
I am also confused about copy of tax number. I have my SSN card copied and notarized. But not sure it is something they required.

In this case, we will definitely do the biometrics first and send the documents later after. Hopefully the FBI apostilled record will come back within two months.

Good luck to everyone!

By far the easiest thing for the FBI check is to use the Post Office if they do it near you. Not every Post Office does it, so you have to look it up.

hi all. i have found this thread immensely helpful (ie. comforting and useful) this year so i’d like to share some information re our gv application.

  1. filed: november 2021
  2. pre-approved: may 2022
  3. invited for biometrics appointment dec 2022
  4. appointment scheduled for march 2023

all of y’all still pending, hang in there. hopefully your plans are not too time dependent, as patience proves to be a key ingredient in the recipe.

best of luck!

We are waiting for our lawyers to confirm what fresh documentation is required at this stage.

At the time of application, we had provided the following:
Self - police clearance from country of residence
Spouse - marriage certificate, police clearance from both country of residence and country of birth / passport
Daughter (minor) - birth certificate

Do we need all these again or it just the police clearance certificates?

In theory you’d need all of these refreshed, plus the ‘no debt’ declarations from both Tax Authority and Social Security, each has 45 days validity.
In practice it will be down to the SEF agent at the appt. to tell you which ones actualy required vs. not.
