Awaiting Final Approval (Stage 4)

Does anyone know if there was a ruling in regards to the proposed 10 years for citizenship?

Yes it passed the parliament. Next step is to see if president refers it to the constitutional court. Discussed here: What's the potential impact of the 2025 Portuguese election on the Golden Visa program and pathway to citizenship? - #1424 by callixtus

After a long journey filled with hope, patience, and perseverance, I’m delighted to share that I finally received my Golden Visa approval yesterday!

The Nomad Gate community has been an incredible source of guidance and support throughout this process. Every time I had a question or uncertainty, I could always find clarity and encouragement here.

This journey has been one of hope, anticipation, frustration, and anxiety, but also of learning and resilience. We are still uncertain about how the Golden Visa timeline for naturalization will unfold — particularly whether the waiting period before final approval will count towards the requirement. Yet, I remain optimistic that in time, all of us will reach that milestone.

To everyone still waiting, please don’t lose hope. There truly is a silver lining behind the dark clouds — it might take time, but it will happen.

Here’s my detailed timeline for reference:

  • Online Application: 29 November 2021
  • Application Payment: 30 November 2021
  • Pre-Approval: 11 August 2022
  • Biometrics (Lisbon): 31 January 2023
  • Final Approval (Funchal): 7 November 2025

Wishing strength and patience to everyone still in the process — your day will come too. :glowing_star:

Congrats! Your application and mine have been following each other through the system, from Lisbon to Funchal…

Do you have any qualms about making the payment given the changes?

Thanks, Chris. We’ve been through quite a journey together, and your spreadsheet was incredibly helpful throughout. I’ve now transferred the funds to my lawyers—they’ll handle the payment and follow up on the card issuance. Hopefully, the process moves swiftly from here. I’ll keep you updated.

Hello everyone,

I paid my DUC on 4 June 2025, but I still haven’t received any update regarding either my own card or my dependent’s DUC.

Has anyone who paid around the same date—or even later—already received their cards?

Thank you very much. Where was your biometric? Mine was in Lisbon.
What about your dependent? Have they received their DUC?

Yes my bio was also in Lisbon on 21 Mar '23
Dependents have been approved. DUC paid earlier this month. Waiting on their cards.

I paid a DUC on 23 May this year. Card was received only today. Biometrics were collected in Lisbon three years ago to the day, but card was printed in Madeira.

I’m curious if anyone out there is considering delaying DUC payment (or actually made the decision to drop out altogether) in light of the anticipated changes in the law?

Paid DUC in June. Still waiting on my card, which I assume will come any day now, at which point my dependent’s DUC will be due. I was hoping to get clarity on retroactivity before committing to another 6k in fees to stay in what’s feeling like a more and more futile attempt to obtain a PT passport.

Should know in the next few days whether the President saves us or forsakes us…

Everyone on this thread I think it’s worth trying to speak up.

Contact the president and tell your story.

First post here. I did write to the President’s office. It took just a few minutes. I highlighted something in my background, which could be valuable to the country and is quite unusual. I want to push back against the idea that GV investment in Portugal only affects the economy. GV investors reflect intellectual, artistic, scientific expertise that could benefit Portugal.

Done. A more direct link for people coming after me: FormulÔrio de contacto - Contactos - Sítio Oficial de Informação da Presidência da República Portuguesa

It’s honestly super easy, please do it. You can use ChatGPT to translate into Portuguese and to have the correct respectful tone, which might be hard to do for those of us that speak Portuguese like 3rd graders;)

Finally some progress!

Here’s our timeline:

  • Application: 23 November 2021
  • Pre-Approval: 20 July 2022
  • Biometrics (Lisbon): 15 February 2023
  • Final Approval: 23 October 2025 – but our lawyers only let me know about the approval on 11th of November!
  • Final payment date: not sure since it will be processed by the lawyers, haven’t received the confirmation yet
It’s so frustrating that the lawyers have been sitting on the news of the final approval for nearly three weeks. Hopefully this will not flag our final payment as late. The lawyers are saying it should be fine, not sure how much I trust them now. But at this point I am not planning to change the lawyers.
Now starting the wait for the card and the approvals for the dependents.
And we also signed the petition, although given the recent track record of how things are evolving in the country the chances of good developments seem very slim.

I received an email from my attorney telling me that AIMA ha requested a copy of my updated passport. This is the first contact from AIMA since my biometric appointment in January 2023 (application 2021).

I am hoping that AIMA will not issue approval until we know for certain whether the proposed immigration and naturalization rules will actually be going into effect. I won’t pay a DUC unless the date for starting the clock is kept at date of application for people who have already waited years for the first residence card. For me that is not negotiable.

That’s great news, Maxine. It’s also nice to know you didn’t discontinue your application.

I hope there’s some clarity about the counting of residence start date between the time you receive your approval and the deadline to pay DUC.
