Awaiting Final Approval (Stage 4)

That sounds like something has gone wrong. My son and I did our biometrics in Coimbra. I paid my DUC in early June. Paid my son’s DUC in early July. My card dated 12th July, his 16th July, received them both together a couple of weeks later.

I paid the DUC on 2nd June 2024 and I have not received the cards yet. My biometrics was in Coimbra. Also it looks like the whole card production step is not automatic. Some one has to flip a switch to send that info to the card producing center. This might be very well possible with the archaic system they have.

My lawyers chased AIMA I believe in early July. I don’t know if it was a coincidence but within a few days of them chasing we received the DUC for my son, and the cards were printed soon after.

Arghhh… just noticed some mistakes on the back of my dependents cards.

They have put incorrect information under “PLACE OF BIRTH” that will not match their passports.

Anyone know how big of a deal this is? possible to travel with this? How difficult is it to correct?

Do you have a passport which can enter Schengen without a visa? If so it probably doesn’t matter.

If you need the card in lieu of Schengen visa, ask your lawyer.

Hello everyone, hope all is well.
My application from 14 December 2021
And my Biometrics made 17 May 2023 in Portimao
Is there anyone close to these dates has already received the Golden residency card?
And from your prospective, do you think filling a suitcase against AIMA would help? What do you think need your opinion here.
Thanks a lot

Application: 10 October 2021; Biometrics: 18 January 2023 in Lisbon.
No card issued for over one and half years since biometrics. Law suit was filed in end of May 2024. The initial response from AIMA received by my lawyer: “The applicant has not yet submitted biometrics, hence no card could be issued”. Their own web site has the record of both mine and my wife’s biometrics, as well as a letter from SEF confirming the same!
The agency is in a complete disarray. You must file a lawsuit, if nothing else, just to force AIMA to review your data/status.
Good luck!

The system is paralysed obviously.

If getting a card is important to you file a suit sooner rather than later.
I applied 7th December 2021. Got my card in May 2024.
I would not have received it yet without taking action.

We (the whole family) did biometrics at SEF Portimao in March 2023 and we all received our final approval in October 2023, but still no residence permits issued as yet. According to our lawyer we really only need to have the physical permits when we come to apply for citizenship - as we are not living in PT - but that is still another two years away. If we still haven’t received the permits in another year or so we’ll look at filing a lawsuit at that stage.

Maybe in a few years it’ll be:

“Hi, I’d like to apply for citizenship based on 5 years from biometrics under the new law”

“Biometrics? What biometrics? We have no record of your biometrics!”

Apparently that is happening already! There is not even a need to wait for the proverbial “Próxima Semana”!.. :slightly_smiling_face:

I would speak with the litigator at your law firm (assuming they have one) and see what the current treatment of these claims are. If you look at the threads here, most of the administrative actions against AIMA have been denied UNLESS you can claim some immediate need to have your card issued (i.e., you want to live there now). I filed one in January 2024 and received a denial two days later. Therefore it could be a waste of money.

Also look at the spreadsheet with the approvals. Your time waiting is not out of the ordinary. Mine was 18 months between biometrics and issuance.

This isn’t normal. I got my card recently within 2 months of final approval which seems about the norm. I suspect your application has been lost. I would file a case to prompt them to look at it, as I suspect that simply waiting is not going to lead to your cards being issued.

@Beanieskis When did you do your biometrics and receive final approval? Were you Potimao for biomentrics?

I did my biometrics in Coimbra Feb 2023 and received final approval in early June 2024. I believe cards are printed centrally though.

I applied in 2021, Biometrics in Lisbon on September 29, 2022. I received final approval 2 months ago, and my wife last week. We’ve paid for the visas now and are just awaiting the cards. My lawyer tells me I should get mine any day. And probably 2 months for my wife to get her residency card. No lawsuit, just patience.

When in 2021 did you apply? I am trying to gauge where AIMA currently is with regard to the application queue.

Congratulations again.

I applied mid August 2021. --But I am not sure that matters.

I think the more relevant date would be your bio-metric date and location. My bio-metric appointment was late September of 2022 in Lisbon. That said there was nothing complicated about my case. The most complicated thing that happened is my wife’s passport expired during the 2 year wait after the bio-metric apt. --and that was handled via email.
