Awaiting Pre-Approval (Stage 2)

I am wondering is it possible that they are still working on Dec 2021 for more than a year ?

Why our lawyers not all ask for meeting with AIMA and ask them to solve the GV by dedicated team of their employees, it not fare to hold our applications for more than 2 years while the D7, D2,D3 maximum they got the approval in 4-6 months .

We have invested to get the privilege of the GV, while the applicants for other visas ( with all respect ) did not do .

I have made a court case but the judge said that I am not in hurry as I am out of Portugal!!!.

If I am out I should wait for 4 years !

The prior PM wanted to end the GV program with retroactive effect. During his campaign to do that, the program was baselessly blamed for the housing crisis and our class of visas became a political football that no one wants to touch. The resentment and ill-will generated has had the lasting consequence that AIMA won’t touch our applications unless we are resourced enough to sue and lucky enough to win.

My take: while the government ultimately didn’t explicitly end the program with retroactive effect because it would have been unconstitutional, it has just stopped processing them, which leaves us stranded and without a clear remedy.

I was there for my two week visit. At a restaurant where I know the owner, he was discussing with my neighboring table how Portugal has been overrun with people applying for Golden Visas and increasing property prices and cost of living. And he is quite well informed on many things…

So, the resentment on the street is real and I don’t think they even realize the various visa types and the incoming population…

So, they are basically ill informed and ignorant.

"Rising like a Phoenix from the ashes of the erstwhile ā€œSEFā€; ladies and gentlemen, I present to you all ā€œAIMA THE NOTORIOUSā€.

With the motto ā€œTHOU SHALL NOT PASSā€, AIMA’s notoriety will precede it’s unholy, unwelcome arrival in the lives of existing and future residency applicants for times immemorial.

AIMA shall establish new benchmarks for inefficiency and lethargy which even ā€œSEFā€ could not breach with all the resources at its’ disposal. Shudder will those who stand with the law and pursue value for value in their dealings with the Portuguese state. Doomed are thee to an eternal wait and shall perish in life before your efforts are rewarded."

And with these words, soon to be vanquished Antonio Da Costa passed on the baton to Luis Montenegro who as the name suggests himself is a migrant from Montenegro just like Antonio was from India (or their ancestors-point is they both are not indigenous Portuguese).

And my friends concerned about the actions (or the lack of it) from our law firms and agencies representing us, let me enlighten you. They are busy selling the revised ARI to unsuspecting newbies like we were couple of years back. I am sure you will find them frequently jostling with each other on their sojourn to Vietnam, Philippines, South Africa and China.

I dont think my residency application is ever getting approved if anyone from Portugal government or judiciary or AIMA or even someone from a law firm ever goes through my posts.

I mean, Costa himself waged a propaganda war against us and it worked. The disinfo became consensus reality and seemingly no one in Government wants to correct the record on our behalves. We need to figure out what would incentivize them to do that and start pushing those levers.

Hello good people! Haven’t visited this forum in a long time, mostly for the peace of mind reasons. We are January 2023 applicants and were just wondering if things have already moved on further than applications submitted in Dec '21? We were planning to ā€˜budget’ our vacation time next year for the biometrics appointment trip to Portugal but TBH I’m not even sure if our bio apt will happen next year…
I was also wondering if there is now a bit more clarity on whether the timing for the citizenship application begins at the GV application submission time. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the basic questions - we were completely and purposefully avoiding the news cycle to stay sane

As far as I know it is confirmed that the 5 years will started from the date of paying the fees on the portal

Just to confirm, the date of paying the fees for the GV application? I think our lawyer paid within 5 days after submitting our paperwork.

Yes that the date I mean as per my lawyer

Is a whole thread about that topic… in short we still don’t know yet.

Congratulations! I know the agony feeling! Have you had your biometrics appointment yet?

Actually, the government has provided a remedy, albeit unintentionally. The GV for many has already been converted to a D2.

For some on renewal, and only maybe: there’s buzz they may try to collect the remaining fees.

I’m referring to those of us whose applications are not even being processed. I’m a 2022 applicant with no pre-approval and no right to move and live there (because the despacho of 31 dezembro doesn’t apply to us). All I can do is spend more money on the gamble of a lawsuit.

Appreciate the clarification, @rafaahhh!

No, there isn’t any such buzz. One person said that one lawyer made that claim, without substantiation.

Regardless, totally irrelevant to the MANY of us still waiting for pre-approval (which is this thread).

Seems like lawsuits work?

Is there a way to file a single lawsuit that results in policy clarification that benefits everywhere? eg ā€œdecisions have to be made within X monthsā€

Nope…u wish
