Awaiting Pre-Approval (Stage 2)

I think Criminal record check is for over 17s

We also are getting a more pessimistic message from our lawyer. Plus, we haven’t received an email from AIMA asking for updated docs and our status in the portal still says “awaiting analysis.” We applied in Jan 2023 and are not pre-approved. Have we been missed in this new process? Or did the email not reach us? Or have they not gotten to us yet?

Another question: has anyone been able to upload new documents? Our lawyer indicated the portal isn’t actually accepting them yet.

I had posted before about some confusion and feeling a bit left behind, but I can now confirm that another forum member was right in suggesting that my lawyers were probably waiting for the outcome of a procedures meeting with AIMA. This proved to be correct and I’ve just received word from my lawyer about next steps, which matched what others have been discussing here.

If you don’t hear any word by next week, I would chase this down now that there has been official word to legal representatives. There’s definitely a push to move quickly on updating the documentation over the next 1-3 months.

I’m a slight anomaly in this new process - I won a lawsuit to grant me and my dependents an appointment for biometrics in November, and the date for the actual biometrics appointment was this last Monday (Jan 6). My status was also switched to awaiting submission on the portal, and yes, my lawyer was able to submit my refreshed documents on the portal successfully. My status now shows as ‘Transferred’. Since the new process only kicks off after Jan 15, I wasn’t asked to pay at the appointment - this I was told, would be have to be done once my documents have been ‘checked’.

Been on the road but just wanted to give a real big thank you for this Calpoidog! And also just express appreciation for this forum in general, as shitty as all the delays and twists and turns have been in this process, this forum has been a real genuine help, many times (like in this instance) better and more informative than my lawyer and other sources, and i can’t imagine going through this process without it :pray::pray::pray::heart::heart::heart::heart:

US GV applicant here.

My partner and I both have obtained new FBI background checks. By default the results come as a PDF file. To get the apostille from the US Dept of State, it appears we need paper copies mailed to us by the FBI, that we then need to mail to the Dept of State. From the Dept of State website:

Follow these steps to get the apostille certificate from our office:

Make sure your document is an original or certified copy
A certified copy is a copy of a primary document with a certificate on it that it is the true copy. Make sure seals and signatures are originals. The document must include a date of issuance.

All of the instructions refer to mailing (or dropping off) paper documents. Is it possible to just print out the PDF and submit that for the apostille service? Has anyone printed the FBI results and sent that to be apostilled?

@climberofhills
I believe that you just print out the pdf from FBI site and send the printed out PDF to US DEPT of State for the apostle. As I have used a service to get mine done for the initial application and that is what they did (I emailed the pdf to the service, they print it out and send to US Dept of State).

Thank you very much, @1tmathew !

Yep, print it out and mail it. That is what Monument does as well, they just walk it into the office.

Agreed. Have so many complaints about the generic information sent out by my attorney’s office that makes me start swirling about some new requirement only to find out it doesn’t apply to me.

Also, if you live in the US you can contact your Congressman for them to help expedite the request. With their help mine was processed in a week.

I would be surprised if your state’ s department of state would apostle a federal document.

Yes that is how it is done. 2 separate steps. 1. FBI reports back to you your results pdf or snail mail format] 2. Take pdf, either printed it out or send the pdf to a service or you snail mail format and send to US Department of State for the apostle.

Biometric appointments have started flowing in…did anyone on the group or their known contacts receive any??
