The online renewal procedure is for all resident card renewals and does not involve the ARI website - so should not involve any SEF registration number, but the alphanumeric number on your existing card. Login at this location Registo with a valid email (can be a new email).
@tkrunning Can you please surface the updated online renewal process as a top level post or something? There are multiple versions buried in this thread. I think it is useful and comprehensive summary of the community experience with renewal, and there are a few quirks buried in the process which new members attempting renewal would do well to avoid, given that other forum members found them by bitter experience.
Please feel free to edit and reuse the information in any way you see fit, no attribution necessary.
Thanks, I did read the process above and experienced this issue with the SEF portal and the alphanumeric number on my card. Attorneys (PLMJ) have said this is a common issue and SEF had informed them that some cases would return this error. Apparently SEF needs to be contacted to fix.
Thanks! Will update - if anyone has any similar experiences with needing to contact SEF about SEF portal registration issues (method of contact, how long they took to respond, etc) let me know, much appreciated!
My friend, whose ARI card was expiring on 14 March 2023, was having exactly same issue in January when the previous quarter online renewal opened. She provided her original passport to her lawyer on 1 or 2 February when she was in Lisbon and passport was returned to her on the same day evening. She did not know how her lawyer contacted SEF. The issue was resolved in approximately 20 days: from discovery to being able to generate DUC on SEF RENEWAL (not ARI) portal and make payment. Her new ARI card issuing date is 10 Feb 2023.
This is very helpful, thank you. My lawyers have just said that last week they went to SEF in person to resolve this for me and a number of other clients but were told that it has to be done via email - apparently a technical âinformaticâ issue on SEFâs side.
@IME@Onward just a quick update as Mike mentioned not knowing if I am on ARI - I missed that message as it was a busy month.
My residence permit is for professional activity, and I came to Portugal on a D7 visa (back then also used for digital nomads). Hope that helps and that you will be able to renew yours as planned!
Adding some additional information in case anyone is googling regarding Renovação AutomĂĄtica on SEF (that is how I found this forum and it helped me massively to know Iâm not the only one with issues):
On my end, the renewal status on the SEF website is now âcompletedâ / âconcluidoâ. Not sure if that means they reviewed and extended my permit, but I am hopeful it was the case.
Thatâs what I thought cause I donât recall you mentioned ARI which costs more than 10 times the D7 auto renewal fee btw
Anyway, congrats and hopefully ARI RP holders can still renew on upcoming months, cheers!
anyone had any luck for auto renewal or to book an appointment for ARI renewal (on second or third stay card renewal), i got my ARI first in 2018, and renewed on 2020, now, i am waiting for my third renewal which is long expiredâŠ
anyone in the same shoe?
You refer to the âARI websiteâ and ânot a single appointment on ARI.sef.ptâ.
Did you use the HOW TO above? You should not be going to the ARI website, but to www.sef.pt/pt/Pages/Registo The link is here :Registo
Still no response from SEFâs listed email or regional directory emails regarding fixing the technical error that wonât allow me to register on the SEF portal for automatic renewal. Both lawyer and myself have sent multiple follow-ups. If anyone has a better email/has specific experience with this issue that would be most appreciated. For some reason they just wonât accept anything but email on this issue.
Sorry just saw this. We had only paid the processing fee so we just ate that and redid the whole thing on the auto. The twits wanted a police certificate from Malta as that is where we living when we applied in 2018. But that we cannot give as we do not live there.
OK if people who have been trying to do automatic renewals kindly share their success stories on this thread, as our individual âexpiration datesâ come up next few months (i.e., currently those with expirations in April / May / June)? Thanks in advance.
(so we know if the automatic renewals is here to stay, or notâŠ)
