I am choosing a suitable and stability Mutual fund for golden visa. but to be honest, there are serval open-end funds, they are not Mutual fund, which set-up for AIF and invest in some public vehicles. Many channels are promote them as public funds(mutual fund). Is somebody can introduce it? and recommend serval suitable mutual funds?
while else, i heard a saying that golden visa prepare limited/forbid mutual funds for applying it? This news quick crazy! i’d k that is right or fake.
Hi, no, Portugal has not banned mutual funds for the Golden Visa.
But not every mutual fund qualifies. The fund must meet the Golden Visa rules: Portuguese-regulated, minimum €500k investment, at least a 5-year term, and at least 60% invested in Portuguese companies.
An open-ended public fund can be regulated, but that alone does not make it Golden Visa eligible. I would ask the manager for written confirmation that the exact fund is eligible before investing.
Thx Albercu, I knew that mutual funds (At least 60% invested in Portuguese companies) are eligible for GV now. I heard Golden visa is planning for limiting eligible mutual funds.
Anyway, is there any Funds for recommendation? I’d like to know them first.
There are two different questions to consider here, because they get conflated a lot:
Is the fund eligible for the GV? That’s a legal/regulatory question. Portuguese-regulated, the minimum investment and term, the Portuguese-allocation requirement…the rules have shifted more than once, so I agree it’s worth getting written confirmation of eligibility for the specific fund, ideally checked by a lawyer, before committing.
Is the fund a good investment? That’s a completely separate question, and it’s one for a licensed, independent financial adviser, not a lawyer or forum recommendation. I’d be wary of anyone (including firms) who answers “which fund?” quickly, because eligibility and investment merit are different things and mixing them up is how people get burned on a €500k commitment.
Hi! We have compiled a list of Golden-Visa eligible open-ended funds at Nomad Gate that you can see through the link. However, it’s always a good idea to also check and get a written approval from fund manager as recommended by others. If you’re specifically looking for publicly-traded mutual funds, then for example Optimize Portugal Golden Opportunities Fund and Sixty Degrees Ações Portugal in the list should qualify.
