Apologies, that was intended to be a reply to another user. I certainly don’t think the pt govt is treating anyone well, nor do I intend to defend their actions
Specifically I was annoyed that someone thinks everyone is being converted to D2. There’s a reason a lot of folks avoided real estate
Garrett, I believe we have seen reports from people who’ve renewed recently, who invested in non-real estate funds, who were converted to D2 - but they also got 3 years and pad 177 euros so weren’t complaining!
Selina, indeed with more data points coming from investors who recently renewed their cards, it seems D2 permits are issued to investors across a variety of investment categories, real estate, real estate funds, and even non real estate funds…does that mean in time all ARIs will receive D2 permits? Just curious
Related article today in DN about how (quelle surprise!) they didn’t think this rule change through for Digital Nomads, so yet another Portugal SNAFU ensues…
…“They say you need a Social Security Identification Number (NISS) to apply for a Residence Permit, but to obtain a NISS, you need to have applied for a Residence Permit. It’s an endless loop.”
…The impediment arose after changes that Social Security (SS) made to the registration system after the end of the Expressions of Interest. Until then, it was possible to apply for a Social Security number on the online portal, but now you need to have a residence permit before applying.
