HOW-TO: GV Automatic Online Renewal Procedure (Jan 2023→)

True. Possible.
I do not take in everything it says based on my understanding of Portugal. But just in case it is true even for a period of time, I wont be too disappointed.

Thanks for sharing.
The last point about “GV will be converted to D8” is still unclear. In the original answer from Aima, they use the words “deverá” and “poderá” which literally mean “should” or “can” in the future tense. It means that even Aima is unsure if all renewal GVs must be converted or the conversion from renewal GV to D8 is only for some certain types of GVs.
My renewal fee is 3k and 3k is obviously not for D8’s fee. I will wait until I receive the card in hand and see what it is written on the card.

Just another update : AIMA today emailed again confirming my renewal appointment for ARI, which is expiring in end of Jan. The appointment is in Dec in Lisbon.I think they have now really moved the renewal from online to offline.
I did not launch the lawsuit. It all seems sudden and unreal.

Hello!
Good news
Could you please share the AIMA email address to request renewal appointements ?

Thank you

Hello!
Could you please share the AIMA email address to request renewal appointements ?

Thank you

I did not request them. They automatically assigned renewal appointment date to me. I checked my sef account and suddently realized it. So it is worth checking it everyday.

They don’t even email you?

I explained in my post above…

Wow, this is welcome news, congratulations! A few questions:

  • From remarks you made earlier, I assume this is your second renewal, and your first renewal was via the automatic route last year?
  • Did AIMA send the renewal mail to your address, your lawyer’s address, or both?
  • How did you raise your original question with AIMA - which email address? Or was it some other channel?

@live2learn
When your card was expired?

I explained in my post above…

Hey.

  1. The appointment scheduled is for my 4th renewal actually. My citizenship application is not complete yet so I need to keep my residency valid until it is. In 2023 I managed to renewed online.
  2. AIMA sent it to my address because I contacted them myself. I do not know if they sent it to my previous lawyer cause I am no longer their client.
  3. I contact them only at geral@aima.gov.pt. I repetitively asked them what to do with my next renewal after my first auto-renewal. 4 months later, they scheduled me an appointment.

How many days notice did they give you from the email notifying you of your renewal appointment until your appointment?

I find this movement back to in person visits to be very disruptive when they only give you (what seems like) a months notice, especially over the holidays or if you have other business or travel plans. And also the difficulty of getting criminal background check documents available as well. Thank you and best of luck on your appointment!

You mean D2 (entrepreneur visa)? D8 is digital nomad visa.

My real estate GV was converted to D2 when I did online automatic renewal.

Indeed. Even less than a month’s notice in my case. Notified me on 15th Nov with an appointment on 2nd Dec. Luckily I happen to be in Lisbon around this period of time.

A month is literally impossible for people who require Schengen visa.

You can provide that after the appointment by mail so not critical.

Hi,
Many thanks for the information. How long before your card expiry did you start writing to AIMA? And how frequently? I understand it is better to rely on one’s own efforts rather than hope the lawyers will secure a biometric appointment!
Mine expires at the start of April.

Hi,
Around 6 months before the expiry date of my card, I started to “bombard” AIMA with emails, every 2-3 days for a month. I believe AIMA thinks I’m desperate enough so they show some mercy lol.
I heard some was able to secure appointments through lawyers but if it does not hurt you, emailing AIMA on your own too to maximize the chance !
