Can anyone recommend any good books (non-fiction or fiction) that help me better understand Portugal’s history? Mostly interested in the past 100 years or so.
Also interested so if you find anything good let me know
I’ve been reading A History of Portugal and the Portuguese Empire by AR Disney for the history up to about 1800 and it is pretty accessible, seems like a good primer. It’s very hands off about the horrors of slavery for better or worse, but that’s the only thing I can criticize it for really.

HI Dave, I would recommend “A Concise History of Portugal (Cambridge Concise Histories)”. It gives an overview of the factors that influenced Portugal in recent times.
