I personally can’t imagine using Wise or Revolut for anything that mattered. I would consider using them for day to day transactions if there was some upside to doing so, but I can’t figure out what it is.
That said, I am skeptical of most of these new fintech-like app-only platforms. Perhaps I am an old fuddy-duddy.
However given the banking scene in Portugal, I guess I can understand why people would be seeking alternatives…
I guess my post was misunderstood as I meant that my transfer from IBKR hit the PT bank’s compliance and did not make it through
I believe this was due to the originating account’s holder name showing IBKR, not the person holding the IBKR’s account.
So it was nothing to do with IBKR compliance, which is another matter for another forum haha
As a Metal customer I get travel insurance, a VPN subscription, airmiles for every card transaction to the airline programme of my choice, free SEPA instant transfers, and have saved a small fortune on currency exchange fees any alternative would have charged for both my GV investment and subsequently my property. None of this as a Millennium premium customer. None.
I am sure they allow incoming transfers in theory. As long as you pass compliance (source of funds, invoice, goods receipt, relationship with the sender, etc etc..)
That’s probably because the remitter in the SWIFT transfer is the brokerage, not the client, so it appears to the bank like a third-party payment. If that is the case, also remittances from a Wise account will be frowned upon, for the same reason. In fact, initially IBKR rejected payments from Wise due to regulatory restrictions on third-party transfers.
In MillenniumBCP transactions, it only shows my name. I didn’t know who is the remitter in the background. I am never charged anything for receiving remittance from my Revolut account to MillenniumBCP.
I have been with Novobanco for almost four years. Aside from temporary block due to my place of birth (RU) which was removed once I received my PT Residency Card, I have not experienced any issues. I do have to admit that my personal banker has been extremely helpful. As everything in Portugal, much is based on your personal relations, and banking is no exception.
Sorry you have been stuck in such a precarious situation.
