# Opening bank account

I have NIF and will be in Lisbon visiting soon. Looking for bank recommendations for opening account? Also any tips on what I will need other than Passport and NIF

I have read online ([https://novomove.com/](https://novomove.com/)) that to open a bank account in PT you will need the following:  
**Required Documents:**

- Passport
- Proof of address
- Proof of employment
- Portugal NIF document
- Tax number from the country of residence

Did you get your [NIF online](https://nomadgate.com/x/nif-online)?  
I’m about to start the visa application process and considering obtaining NIF and opening a bank account remotely; unsure what the downsides to doing this could be.
