“It’s hard to believe there’s a place worse than America, but we found it!”
Us too. Actively working on our exit strategy. It’s a shame how it all worked out.
Ditto. Looking at yanking my fund investments and leaving the country end of year.
A stretch to claim this is only because of AIMA, but that sh**show certainly makes immigrant life hell.
I don’t think the article really says that other than in the title, but if you think having an expired permit is a pain for you, imagine it for the less-well-resourced in-country immigrant who has to deal with its effects in daily life. It’s not the only thing, but it’s definitely a thing.
AIMA and the current government are definitely a contributing factor for us deciding to leave. So is the AirBnB party house located 80 metres from us. Our villa is another factor as well. Cold and damp in the winter and in need of constant maintenance. As a result our monthly expenditures are far greater in Algarve than in Sussex, which, when crunching the numbers, blew our minds. ![]()
Maybe we could find another property somewhere else that does not require this level of expenditure and hard graft, but the chaos of AIMA and the unpredictability of government policymaking is something we are no longer prepared to live with.
Well, there’s always high-end new-build… but even then, you need to pay the all-year dehumidifier bill, and I’ve noticed a pattern of there being a distinct set of relationships amongst the various people involved in the sale and maintenance of my property. ![]()
Ain’t this the truth. We know quite a few estate agents (realtors) and they all sing the praises of capoto insulation, claiming it will make all the difference in terms of heat retention and decreased humidity. Every one of them can recommend a contractor - typically non-Portuguese - who can install it for us. ![]()
I bet that nothing will happpen. Even when people sued Aima for not giving cards within due date but in the end the court could not do anything to Aima and the same pattern repeats itself. Immigrants continue to be abused by the delays and bureaucracy… ![]()
