One of the final benefits of Portugal was the path to citizenship and only needing 7 day/year (on average). Apparently Bulgaria will issue you a PR right after approval that has no residency requirement (but they don’t allow non-EU dual citizenship). If you were here for the residency in the EU with a path to citizenship (that’s now effectively gone) it might be something to look into more.
Because it’s much cheaper and requires no immediate relocation.its still the best option out there for people who want European passport one day and want to start the process now.

Two years ago I was still agreeing with you. However, now that we know the GV process is subjected to the deliberate and very blatant discrimination, this logic is no longer applicable.
FYI, I actually do live in Portugal for almost four years, and it is getting pretty obvious which way the political wind is blowing here.

It would never lead to a visa, but that’s basically the same as the GV anyway…

Yes but I don’t want to donate any money, I am making 20% ROI annually instead. And I am diversifying from the US market at the same time. I do pay a lot of money in fees to the layers and AIMA though.
I could invest €250k in Australia right now too, without the AIMA fees!

I am sure it will change soon, and I do no predict future returns. But optimize has been performing very well as well as the whole international market. I’d like to diversify it more broadly if I could but I am trying to find the silver lining in investments that are made in the last 1-2 years.

Paid the DUC through a reference number provided after an email from AIMA in mid April and now lawyer informs me that AIMA asks for the payment again as they do not see my previous payment in their records. Total mess…
Every stage of this process is highly frustrating and keeps me asking myself why I am still in this ridiculous scam… 4.5 years spent for nothing.. What a shame…

Not a fan of your comment, but as long as you’re a bona fide PGV applicant, the Portuguese state will do worse to you than I ever could.
Has anyone else here had their DUC payment for renewal go missing? Wife paid hers last week and there is no sign of it on the portal.
Is this just a typical AIMA delay or has something more significant happened? We only renewed to give us time to sell and move and now we’re wondering if we are going to be €3800 poorer as a result of this.

Though I understand your feelings, may the best team win, whoever they are! Unfortunately, between two of my favourite teams (France and Germany), one has already been eliminated, and the other one is not delivering the shining performance of four years ago.

I recall reading of missing DUC payments in other threads. Given this has been happening for at least 1.5 years already, they should have fixed it by now, but you know, it’s AIMA, so…

Yes, that happened to me a couple of years ago. It was a total pain dealing with AIMA, and I seem to recall having to provide them with proof of the successful transfer from Millennium BCP (a document called a Nota de Lançamento, which I was able to download through my online banking portal) but it did eventually turn up in the AIMA system a couple of months later. I would just note that was before the new AIMA portal was up and running so you might not be waiting that long.
