# Portugal Digital Nomad Visa - Waiting Time

Hello everyone,

Does anyone know about the waiting time for the digital nomad visa if it’s requested from Portugal and not your residency country? I just heard it could be at least 16 months, and apparently, if you’re not American, Portugal retains your passport from the moment you request the visa until it’s approved (which to me seems a bit extreme)

Any information on this topic will be helpful!
