My lawyers quoted me the normal GV rate, and they will submit on my behalf and provide me with government proof of payment. While I imagine that he D2 fee is what is being quoted as future situation, I would use data points of what the government will levy is using now for people who are applying and get appointments. If someone else has gotten a renewal appointment, atttended it, submitted an application, and actually paid the D2 fee, I would love to hear from them as it would give me leverage to push back on the much higher GV fee.
Hi Zayd, when are the expiry dates of your and your wife card. I understood the renewal appointment is only theoretically open for booking within 3 months of expiry day of the card?
Hi Roger,
My card expires in end of July, my wife’s at beginning of August. So I’m bit out of the window, but it also could be due to my dependents’ cards which had expired last year and needing to renew before the June 2025 default extension deadline set by government…though that might be ascribing too much logic to the process.
Hi Zayd,
I think you are really lucky, your lawyer is really good, or some combination.
Thanks Terence! I think both are probably very true though luck is probably biggest part. Wish you all the best to get that appointment. Hope AIMA starts getting this fixed and that this all gets sorted out for everyone.
@Zayd_Khoury
I believe luck is 80%, as all lawyers can only try which I think every lawyer is doing. I am still wondering if the lawyer got it by email or in the website in your profile .
Thank you Zayd for sharing your lawyer contact.
Indeed nowadays it s a huge achievement getting appointments for renewal. Thank you again
Thank you Zayd for updating us. Congratulations!
I guess that It is a combination of mostly luck plus lawyer’s diligence.
I just received my new resident card today, valid for three years. My in-person appointment was on December 2nd last year. My last card valid until end of Feb this year.
The process was insane because I fired my lawyer a long time ago and handled everything myself—from securing an appointment slot to the very finish. It was a stressful experience but from which I also learned a lot.
My only trick was relentlessly emailing AIMA non-stop. Even twice a day for around five months. I started to approach AIMA 6 months before my last card expired.
Meanwhile, my citizenship application is still ongoing, and I’m seriously considering filing a lawsuit due to significant delays. It seems there are lawyers willing to take the case.
Congrats for cards
Being in the same case citizenship is more stressful experience! Have you applied online via your lawyer or in person? In which manner do you think a lawsuit can help you expedite your citizenship process ?
Are you leveraging any priority ? Because itbis the only way to expedite a CS process !
Sharing experiences with GV fellows interesting discussing the nationality processes.
My case is in Porto applied via lawyer 01/2024
Congrats for your cards’ renewal; would it be possible to share the renewal fees and the type of investment associated with your GV?
Hi Sam, I applied for citizenship almost two years ago offline. My application is with an IRN that is still struggling to process applications submitted in 2022, while many others are already working on cases from mid-2023. A litigation lawyer suggests that there is a legal basis under administrative law to support a lawsuit. Such a lawsuit could take over a year, but the IRN might respond with a decision at any stage before the court ruling.
Have you applied online? To my knowledge, Porto isn’t handling offline applications too badly. However, to this day, I haven’t seen an online case completed at the Porto IRN. But I could be wrong !
The fee is 177 euros through the real estate route.
Hello.
Thank you for sharing information.
As I understand you passed 5 years. You got appointment slot by yourself. Could you clarify why didn’t not apply for permanent residency? Was it possible to apply renewal and permanent residency on the same appointment?
Hi Miffy, Yes i applied (family of 4) online in January 2024 with lawyer. Even if we haven t seen yet online processes completed, i think it won t take longer to start seeing 2023 online cases completed.
Moreover, we are approaching mid June 2023 online processes and this the date that we started seeing online applications (Article 6.1) processed with less bureaucracy (less admin tasks for conservators, less burdens for them + IRN checks being already done with external bodies ) let s say more efficiency.
Have you tried applying online?
Does any member of this forum has any update on the appointments for the renewal?
Hi everyone! I just wanted to give an update - my lawyer just told me that she managed to get a renewal appointment for me (main applicant) but not yet for my husband. Our cards expired in January this year, my appointment is for June 6.
Hello!
I just received news from my lawyer that she managed to get a renewal appointment for me (main applicant) but not for my husband yet. Our cards expired end of Jan 2025 and the appointment for me is on the 6th of June 2025.
Congratulations @supermoira. Will be interested to hear about your experience at AIMA.
Our lawyer was also able to recently secure an appointment for my spouse. Both of our cards expired back in May 2024. As the primary applicant, I was able to renew online during the brief window when it was possible - back in August 2024. However, as many have posted here, it’s been difficult to renew spouses/dependents.
My spouse had the AIMA renewal appointment a couple of weeks ago, in Lisbon. All the supporting documents (updated FBI and marriage certificates, proof of stay in country, etc) were reviewed and accepted. Biometrics were taken. The processing fee of €618,60 was paid on the spot. However, renewal fee was not collected and the AIMA agent said the file had to be passed to another group for final approval. Apparently the procedure had just changed on 1 March. Our lawyer pushed for an immediate approval, but was not successful. So now we wait… again.
