A2 Portuguese Language Certificate course

Hi Aylin, thank you for your info. Can you use this certificate to apply for the permanent residency as well?

Hello there,
Do you think it is completely OK to apply to citizenship with just enrollment certificate and adding the PLA certificate later?

I don’t know if it’s OK but I know I’m doing it! So, we’ll see

I recommend Michelle Thomas Portuguese audio. They have a foundation and intermediate audio. If you have Spotify Premium, you will find them in the audio books section.

Play them on repeat ubtil you know it all.

It’s a great way to start your journey into learning Portuguese.

Relatedly, does anyone know if the paper/physical certificate is required to submit an application for citizenship? We are racing through the course now and trying to figure out timing for our other documents. Our digital certificate will be ready by the day we are eligible to apply for citizenship, but I understand the paper version may take 3 weeks to arrive. (We are using Ciple Master). Would be very grateful for any intel.

I used a digital “enrolment certificate” for the citizenship application. The lawyer was okay to submit, though initially they did ask for the original hard copy to be sent to their offices.

I become eligible to apply for PT citizenship at the end of December 2026. However I am a native English speaker and I need to take the 150 hour course ONLINE, my attorney suggested Edpro. And of course there is the threat of rule changes which would effectively push out my application 10 years (I recently got my card). I don’t want to take the course if this happens. I am thinking to wait until the fall (or sooner if I know I can apply in December) and then take the intensive to squeeze it in before application. The Edpro website seems to indicate I could complete in 8 to 9 weeks, so maybe plan on starting early October? Does this make sense? Have others squeezed in their coursework that soon before their application? Edpro has not been helpful and it took them 6months to send me course openings after I submitted their application online… but I assume this should be possible. The other problem is they require payment on signup and then cannot refund.

EduSETPT has a good PLA course.

That timeline will work for EdPro just stay on top of when classes open on their website, send the pre application form on the website, then follow up by WhatsApp 48hrs later since they are slow to respond and classes can fill quickly.

The certificate takes 4-8 weeks to get, so figure that into your timeline. Our class was 13 weeks long.

Hi Chefe, they’re telling me that course you took doesn’t exist. Is there some magic way to ask about it, or has it just gone by the wayside?

I’m taking the class right now (began in March, ends in June) but I don’t know that EdusetPT has any future PLAs scheduled for US hours in the future. I believe this was the first time they’ve done it, but may do again in the future?

100% agree. I am just finishing my course with them which will conclude this week. The teacher is amazing and the timings suited me very well. They were very responsive from the day1.

They just announced another one for west coast US evenings starting end of May.

Scammers have picked up on the increased demand for A2 certs…

Immigrants pay for Portuguese language courses to obtain citizenship, but fake diplomas are being produced.

PUBLIC Brazil and Lusa, April 18, 2026, 16:27

"There has been an increase in the number of scams affecting mainly very vulnerable people," Nélia Alexandre told the Lusa news agency. She is the director of the Center for Assessment and Certification of Portuguese as a Foreign Language (CAPLE) , an organic unit of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Lisbon.

According to Nélia, some private institutions charge thousands of euros for online training, as was the case with an immigrant who paid around 6,000 euros for a supposedly certified course, but which, in reality, had no value whatsoever.

…“We have already been contacted by AIMA (Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum) regarding doubts about certain course certificates, allegedly promoted by IEFP. The cases that were forgeries and involved the misuse of the institute’s symbol were forwarded to the Public Prosecutor’s Office,” revealed Luz Pessoa e Costa…

Has anyone enrolled with CipleSchool? Are they any good? Does IRN accept their certificate? I tried to enroll with CipleMaster but they were full. My lawyer suggested CipleSchool, and their fees are similar to CipleMaster.

eduset is 750 euros was the quote correct?

Having been burned on this issue, i recommend that the school is verified in the “new” database. This didnt exist when I spent €7k on lnguage classes that dont count for anything. Qualifica

Has anyone here used the “complaint book” to file a complaint against their language program if it promised to provide a PLA certificate for nationality, when in fact it is not a certified program? I am considering doing so because LUSA is still scamming people.
