Interesting… I was looking into GetA2 earlier this year, and they said they worked with a different provider for the self-paced course (not one that was on the list of Qualifica centers). If anyone here has taken the course and can confirm, that would be very helpful.
Separately, the English translation of the law creating PLA courses (183/2020) is pretty helpful, and has good details on both the entities that can offer courses, as well as a model certificate for course completion.
Inovinter is a school (Centro de Formacao e de Inovacao Technologica) that issues A2 certificate. I saw them under the accredited school through one of the link that was sent in this platform. I just can’t find the link again, seem to be blocked.
To close the loop here, @melodicbarracuda was right-they use a different provider for the self-paced program vs the group clases.
Here’s what they shared:
For the VIP Fast Track program, the certificate is issued directly by Linguagest (Escola de Línguas para Comunicação Empresarial CRL, Legal Entity Number 504691066).
Linguagest is a language training entity certified by DGERT (Certificate No. 0802/2013), which is part of the Ministry of Labor, Solidarity, and Social Security. They issue SIGO certificates stating the A2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
I’m confused as to whether SIGO certificates are valid for citizenship applications or not, so going to ask my lawyer about it.
I have been told that SIGO certificates are not valid for citizenship, which is why we need to repeat our course. Even though LUSA says it will work—it has to be a PLA certificate.
Usual caveats apply (I’m not a lawyer/not your lawyer), but I spent a bunch of time looking at this. My understanding is that if the entity is only certified by DGERT, then the certificates won’t work.
From the law:
“PLA courses are promoted by public schools, by the network of centres under direct and participated
management of the Instituto do Emprego e da Formação Profissional, and by the network of Qualifica Centres.”
Based on that, the logos to look for are DGestE, IEFP, or Qualifica (see list posted further up).
I believe SIGO is just the database used to track qualifications in Portugal, so just because something is in SIGO doesn’t necessarily mean it is or isn’t acceptable; acceptability is based on the entity granting the certification.
Understood. I was originally told that it “should” work. However, I believe that there has been more clarity around the fact that it has to be a PLA certificate. I know that there are others in NG that have messaged me to say that they have gone down this road with LUSA and are also having to correct course. I am not an expert on this by any means and have spent far too much time and money on the langauge portion, this is something that you and your attorney will need to decide how to handle. For myself and my son we are submitting the certificates from LUSA to start our process and we are already working on obtaining new proof of langage stuff to be in compliance.
For the good of the community, my lawyers have come back and said that the GetA2 certificate will be accepted. It’s a PLA course certified by SIGO, which I hadn’t realized was possible.
In any event, my lawyers wrote:
Based on the details provided, the VIP Fast Track program at Linguagest is eligible to demonstrate Portuguese language proficiency for nationality purposes, provided that the SIGO certificate is issued.
Linguagest is DGERT-certified and issues official SIGO certificates stating the A2 level, which is recognized for citizenship applications. Once the course is completed and the SIGO certificate is obtained, it can be submitted as proof of language proficiency.
While this is none of my beeswax…after being burned I might recomend to verify that any langague program is on the list of accredited programs. I dont know who found this or if it is up to date, it seems to provide some guidance. Qualifica
we took tghe 150 hour SIGO course through LUSA. It cost alot and took a year. it turns out that LUSA is NOT accredited to offer a PLA certificate. Our attorney says it will be rejected. we are going to apply with it and see how far we get. we are already working on a new course and i am going to take CIPLE to make up for this.
I took the course with EduSetPt. It was done in conjunction with AEP who issues the certificate. It was sent to my atty who said it was acceptable for the citizenship application.
I contacted both schools in January seeking a PLA class to begin in March. Neither was terribly communicative, but neither asked for more than my passport, NIF and proof the application process for residency had begun (I satisfied this with proof of an upcoming biometrics appointment). EduSetPT was the more communicative of the two so I ended up going with them, but at a higher price than you suggest: €922 for the regularly scheduled class or €1,250 for a specially-scheduled class that requires their teacher to work the graveyard shift in Portugal for higher pay, so we Americans can take the class during US-friendly hours. That class starts Monday. Now, at the eleventh hour I’m finally getting responses from EdPro, too late, but they don’t say what the price would be. I’ve heard elsewhere EdPro may be cheaper than EduSetPT.
