Could you also share your application timeline?
I also had the wrong NIF printed on my residence card last year. My IAS lawyer was able to get a corrected card in just under two months with no additional charges.
I just received an email from my lawyers stating that the AIMA has asked for proof that I paid for the propertyâs refurbishment. They took this to mean that they have started analyzing my application.
Fingers crossed!

Thank you, Nam!
The fun never stops with AIMA!.. I have contacted my lawyer with the request to seek a correction. Hopefully she will succeed, otherwise it will certainly cause me issues with driving license, insurance, and, my wifeâs card if and when it would be issued. Considering that I am technically eligible to apply for citizenship before my first card renewal, I donât think I have any option but to have this corrected. Oh bummer!..
Sorry to hear this. Issues like this are one reason weâve been waiting to add my wife until my card is issuedâŠ
Well, I understand your concern, but losing years towards the eventual goal of citizenship was too high of a price to pay. Even if I have to fork over some 3000 ⏠to correct AIMAâs error, it still brings my better half closer to the ultimate goal, and much sooner. Besides, there are no guarantees with AIMA, period!..
Update on the timeline. The residency card issued on March 20,2025 for a primary applicant whose biometrics appointment was in Lisbon on Feb 8, 2024. This community has been helpful and encouraging. Knowing that going forward there will be still a lot of challenges and having this place makes me feel a lot better. Many thanks to the admin and contributors. The very next step for us is to tackle a dependent card issuance. I am hoping your stressful days will be over soon (at least for a little while until the next to be up!)
When was your final approval date?
Any news of Lisbon Jan 2023 biometrics? March is almost over, still no newsâŠ
The last approval from the January 2023 Lisbon biometrics batch was kipper_tucking from Funchal, approved on March 14. Many Lisbon applicants from the January 23â27 timeframe (week 4) are likely next in line for approval. However, approvals seem to cluster around mid-month. Currently, there is an issue with the generation of DUC, which may have halted approvals until itâs resolved. Every hurdle seems to serve as an excuse to slow things down.
After 3 and a half years my dependents finally did their biometrics this week, it is said when we paid 12000 Euros that the card is supposed to arrive in 3 months, had anyone seen this miracle happen before?
Did you really do biometrics in Jan 2024? Or did you file a lawsuit? Generally they seem to be approving Jan 2023 Lisbon biometrics recently.
My lawyerâs got a call from AIMA a while after our lawsuit, when they said they wanted to get DUCs issued quickly and my account sorted/done ASAP. I paid and less than 3 months later, got my card, but itâs definitely luck of the draw, I think
I have just received an email to ask me to generate a DUC (which I canât yet due to system error)
My time line:
Application: Dec 2021
Fingerprint: Apr 2023 Lisbon
No lawsuit at all
DUC is not working. When it does, it generates a reference number that does not work. It has been happening for a month now.
Amazing! I guess part of me is glad I still havenât been approved because Iâd be irate at the incompetence yet again of having a system that cannot function properly.
Apologies - Feb 2023. Not 2024. I posted the full timeline in the main data base as well as another post before receiving the principalâs card and here is the whole timeline up to nowâŠ.

I understand your point. But even when you have card in hand, the same issue still might happen to your wife. The plus side when including your wife into the process earlier is that her starting date for citizenship is years ahead. If your ultimate goal is the passport for both (husband and wife), then it is worth to add your wife into the process early. I really do believe that the new citizenship law will not last 4ever.
