Hello everyone:

I wanted to provide you with an update of my progress to add to the Lisbon biometrics chart.

I made my GV application December 16, 2021. I was preapproved March 8, 2023. My biometrics appointment was in Lisbon on June 16, 2023. They asked me for 4 additional documents to show that everything is current. My lawyer provided these documents in the system on June 28.

My lawyer will wait for the email requesting the application fee payment, which I understand means the application has been approved. When do you think I will get:

  1. The DUC email requesting me to make the application fee payment.
  2. My residency card.

Based on recent experience, I’d expect (1) around May or June next year, and (2) about three weeks after that. Might be quicker or slower, it’s very hard to predict at this stage.

Crazy… I am wondering what will happen with the transfer of SEF to the new agency in October. Maybe it will slow things down more? What do you think?

I’m not sure anyone knows for sure. I suppose it depends on whether there is much that changes on the ground, or whether it’s more about job titles, logos and the rest. And whether there are more or fewer staff. Presumably there will be the usual confusion and perhaps a slow-down as everyone figures out how the new set-up works. In the longer run, we can only hope it all becomes a bit more efficient.

Lawyers said they got my Titulo de Residência card today. Now we wait for the spouse to get final approval, pay, get card.

My mom (dependent) just got invited for her biometrics, made appointment for July 2023.

Hi, I got my final approval in early June, 2023 and paid the fee on 14th June for issue of my residency card. My wife and I did the biometrics in Lisbon on the same day in Feb, 2022. Does anyone know that how long my wife has to wait before she got the final approval? Anyone can share their experience?

Again off topic, but I’m curious what you mean by no legal framework? Getting married in HK is quite straightforward.

You see, Tim, Golden Visas attract a broad spectrum of the world’s population and not everyone has the legal rights that are clearly afforded to you in all parts of the world. Getting married in HK is not straightforward for everyone because the legal framework does not allow for it for everyone. Thankfully, Utah, and indeed Portugal, do allow and recognise marriage for pretty much everyone because it’s the year 2023.

My lawyer received my card today and I recap my timeline below:

Application submission: 7 June 2021
Pre-approval: 29 July 2021
Biometrics in Lisbon: 14 July 2022
Final approval and DUC generation: 7 June 2023
Payment made: 10 June 2023
Payment reflected on ARI portal: 14 June 2023
Residence permit issuance date: 21 June 2023, valid till 21 June 2025
