Awaiting Final Approval (Stage 4)

A date error somewhere?? We haven’t yet gotten to 15 December 2023…:joy:

I’m using European not American date formatting

I think he was pointing to the year!

I think Selina meant biometrics was 15th Feb 2023, not 15th Dec

I know that Europe is some hours ahead of American timezones but I don’t think that even Portugal has reached December 2023 yet :grinning: @Beanieskis . It’s the year, not the month, that’s confusing people.

Yes, typo was in the month - I wrote 15/12/23 when I meant 15/02/23. Now corrected

Happy days! Much congrats!

Are your dependent dates up to date in the tracker? Your biometrics appointment in Porto was fairly close to ours (Jan 31 2023 for us) so you’re our closest comparison. My wife (primary) has received her card but I (dependent) haven’t received final approval yet – and the gap is widening.

My final approval came on the same date for all family. The later timeline was therefore the same for everyone with slight variations for the DUC payment issue and payment dates.

Has anyone in this topic group heard about the latest on NHR status? The tax exemption for retired income (10%) is going to be removed from 2024. Probably other measures could follow. This could impact even the GV applicants in years to come. This measure will surely put a damper on the rush for people to move to Portugal.

Yes, Costa wants to cancel NHR as a whole from 2024. Not just for pensions.
But he said it would not be retroactive.

Which essentially may simply mean 3 months left to apply for NHR for anyone who ever wanted to.

For someone not living in Portugal, does this matter? I’m fuzzy on the nhr scheme

Only relevant if you want to actually live in Portugal.

Not really.
Relevant for anyone who planned to ā€˜become a tax resident in PT’.
Which does not equate to ā€˜live in PT’.

Semantics aside, what would be the point of becoming a tax resident without living there? You would still be a tax resident in the place you actually live, too, right?

You probably disregard digital nomads in your question?

And to be clear, above we were discussing how to ā€˜become a PT tax resident’, which is a one-off event, not the longer term plans for living/not-living in PT.
If the opportunity to get NHR is going to go away, surely someone would want to obtain this now, even if they do not live currently in PT.

The end of the NHR scheme is being discussed over here:

Let’s keep this thread on topic going forward

Excellent summary  - thank you!!

Sept GV final approval report was published by SEF; below is the link

I don’t know what to think about this data anymore, given how few approvals we see on this site and the known backlog. It seems like there is no real pattern like biometrics site. Getting an approval is like winning the lottery, and I may never win that lottery.

They don’t approve many each month, and a lot of applicants (although a decreasing amount) are probably on Chinese language forums or apps. And the rest just dont post here…
