Hi @Ravig80111 did you go to the courts?
No, I just waited. I didn’t see the point of throwing more money at it, and potentially having some kind of flag put on my application as a PITA applicant. There was no urgent need for me to be there, I’m not retired yet.
I think embarking on lawsuits with a nation on their laws, efficiency or lack thereof, while may seem justified, comes with risks.
My coping mechanism was not letting my frustration take up residence inside my head and keep poking me with a stick
Suck it up, focus on something else that I can do something about. That’s just me.
@Ravig80111 same here → haven’t gone to the courts (biometric in Oct 22). But it’s a very uneasy feeling as everyone seems to be taking the court route.
It’s almost like when everyone had Covid and you are the only few ones who hadn’t, you almost wanted to get Covid.
Hopefully not that drastic…
Signs of life in Lisbon? Praise the gods of bureaucracy!!
I think personal circumstances may have a lot to do with it. Someone that’s sold their house wherever and bought one in Portugal and planned to be there thinking they’d have the card in hand in 12 months…their situation is entirely different from mine.
Not according to AIMA. I actually wrote to them explaining my situation (living in PT with no card for over 15 months), and got a polite letter along the lines:
“…We are sorry, but we are still processing all applicants in chronological order. Currently we are on bios in August/September 2022. It is impossible to predict when we will get to your application…”
My bio was in Jan 18th, 2023.
So you were already in Portugal at the time of application? Or did you arrive with a tourist visa and never left since your application was in process? Even though you have exceed the 90 days. I presume that limits your travel to within the Schengen region?
Wow congrats on getting a reply, that seems like positive movement. Seems like SEF did not reply very often.
Paid my DUC on 1/30/24; Received card 2/23/24 with issuance date of 2/15/24.
Now just waiting on spouse’s.
Getting a reply, and the tone of the reply, is really good news. Suggests that AIMA (unlike SEF) wish to explain their constraints and have some compassion for the predicament of those they keep waiting.
OR maybe I interpret too much !
Nope. I moved there one year after my application. I have been here on U.S. tourist visa ever since, travelling in and out of Europe with no issues so far. Within Schengen, I have not encountered any issues either (we flew to Napoli, Paris, Madrid, and travelled by car through Spain onto France).
Yeah, I framed it, and put it over my headboard!
At least you know they are alive, if nothing else!
I’ve updatedmy details, butdoesnt show in this? Did my Bio at lisbon in Jan’23
Finally after a long wait (nearly 32 Months), I finally got my final approval today!
Chris I can imagine that old Lisbon file is finally going to see some action now.
I had got my Biometrics done in August 2022.
Here are my data points:
Application July 21
Pre approval Sep 21
Biometric 23rd August 22 (Lisbon)
Final approval 26th Feb 24
This forum has been invaluable and individuals here have been so helpful in guiding and shedding light on various issues.
AIMA seems to be getting its act together and I am extremely positive that everyone who is waiting now will sooner than later get their final approval.
Great to know that the process at Lisbon has started showing some activity. Congratulations on your approval. Did they ask for any updated documents like background check/police certifications as the docs originally submitted may have expired as per their requirements? Thanks
Congrats! Did you pay the old fee or the increased fee for card issuance? Thx!
Thankyou. They only asked for updated Investment related documents, however this was in August 2023
