Do we have any updates on the citizenship waiting period really starting from the time of approval?

Not yet - there’s a whole other thread dedicated to that question. And if interpretation is left to the PT courts, then as I’ve noted above that will probably also be inconsistent and unfair.

Wait time now counts toward 5 year residency?

Still no sign of any clarifying regulations, and no indication they’re on the way. The government is already past the legal deadline for producing them, but there’s no real penalty for that. At least one lawyer thinks we’ll never see any regs on this, and the matter will be settled by practice (or the courts).
