From my lawyer today after i resubmitted:

“With that said, please note that we haven´t received notifications with appointments yet for the applications resubmitted in the last three weeks. Moreover, AIMA is adopting this procedure for all Golden Visa processes in the country, and we cannot guarantee that they will be able to schedule biometrics for all Main applications and family members in the first half of 2025.”

Thanks for posting. I was wondering about how soon we can expect appointments. I am about to send PDFs of documents to our lawyer for resubmission. I’m just waiting for the tax card to be notarized and apostilled. We’re trying to plan family summer travel from June to August. We have quite a distance to travel, so I’d prefer not to have an appointment during this time. What do you think the chances are?

Hi Mikie, I have no idea at all what the chances are but I would enjoy your holidays and then jump like crazy to get to your biometrics appointment whenever it comes. At least thats my plan

Agreed - planning around AIMA’s completely random and senseless operations will just drive you mad. All you can really count on is they will take a lot longer than you ever dreamed possible.

Have whatever you need updated and drafted (with requisite attachments) on your “cloud” email server/Google Docs/etc., ready to send with your phone on a crappy connection from whatever lovely beach you’ll be on :beach_umbrella:

I also wouldn’t be surprised if last month’s AIMA GV processing “urgency” has been replaced by this month’s CPLP panic…

Hey all, for any Americans here - did you have to get a notorized, apostilled copy of your social security card? If so, did you have to get a whole new social security card issued within the last 6 months, or was it enough to just get the “true copy affidavit” issued within the last 6 months?

Also, is it true that this has to be done with a state apostille, not a US Federal Gov apostille?

(I’ve asked my lawyer but… not full confidence there to be honest, and thought I’d double check here )

No, Social Security cards do not have to be issued with the last six months (for reference, my wife’s is issued by the Department of Health, Education & Welfare, which hasn’t existed since the 1980s).

You can get it apostilled by a state government by making a photocopy, printing on the copy “I, ____, under the penalties of perjury, hereby certify and attest that this is a true and correct copy of ______'s United States Social Security card,” also include in a separate space on the document “State of _______, County of _____, Signed and attested before me on [date] by [you] who signed in front of the notary,” have it notarized, take it to be apostilled.

This was sufficient for my advocates, who I view as taking a conservative view of what qualifies.

My attorney recommended getting a notary public to notarize a photocopy of my existing social security card and then getting that apostilled by my state’s Secretary of State, which I had done last week. I’ve seen this same protocol recommended others on a different thread.

I didn’t have to do anything, other than showing my SS card to my attorney. She took a photo of it, and I was never asked for anything again, neither during the submission, nor during the biometrics.

I Remember when I applied in November 2021, asking my lawyer if the Biometric appointment for my family and I could be in June 2022 so I could travel for a holiday with my family. Here I am in 2025 still waiting for a biometric appointment of my family ha ha ha

Great news

For the love of all that is good in the world, I hope your attorneys are correct. Personally, I am taking a “trust but verify” approach. I’ve been hurt before

Are your lawyers IAS?

Anyone have any other updates related to this?

Here is the link to the article from the email sent by IAS: Portugal Golden Visa: AIMA Begins Scheduling Biometrics Appointments

Our lawyer submitted updated documents for the main applicant last week, and advised that the updated documents done for the dependents (also provided to the lawyer) were not submitted as AIMA portal accepts at this stage, only the documents of the main applicant.
This is consistent with what @mwwilliams10 reported above.
What is the timeframe expected for biometric appointments? It was reported earlier in this thread that the appointments have now started to be issued. Can anyone who has received a biometric appointment after submission of updated documents (and without having had to file a lawsuit) please update us all? Thanks in advance.

If you dont mind can you tell me who are your lawyers. Mine told me even dependant’s documents have to be submitted at the same time. So thought I would check with you. Thanks

@ajohri2020 To my knowledge, no one on this board has reported getting an appointment after resubmission of documents under the new initiative (or whatever we are calling the announcement from AIMA that occurred in late-December or early January). Some sources outside this board have reported that appointments have been scheduled, but I won’t place much stock in these reports until I hear confirmation from people on this board that they’ve received appointments. As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve taken a “trust but verify” approach to everything involved in the GV process.

@anthony.pinto12 From my own experience you cannot, on the resubmission under the new initiative, submit family documents (this seems confirmed by other peoples’ experience as well). Admittedly, this was done on my behalf by my lawyers, so I have no first-hand experience.
