Awaiting Pre-Approval (Stage 2)

Thanks for this information. Please could you tell us on what date you filed the lawsuit?

October 2024

Congratulations! A few questions as we filed in mid-November and this is the first post that’s given me some hope!

  • Do you know the date you filed the lawsuit (or approximate date? Early/mid/late October)?
  • When did you get notified about the biometric appointment?

Lawsuit was filed mid October. Appointment received December 10, 2024.

Thanks for clarifying.

Has anyone or anyone you heard of got updated since resubmission after Jan 15th?

My lawyer just replied to me AIMA has begun scheduling biometrics appointments without any response to CPLA cutting in line, and I think it’s more of perfunctory.

One report yesterday here:

Wow Thank you.

But it also proves the earlier you resubmit the docs, the sooner you will get the appointment, which I read from some email from my lawyer, is definitely a joke.
I resubmitted in late January and nothing changed.

AIMA is nothing if not random and arbitrary. So they’re just doing what they do best!

Same here (IAS)

Many Americans here said here they used photocopies of Social Security Cards issued years ago when re-submitting documents. I just wanted to ask, does anyone know the rationale behind why all other documents need to have been issued within the last 6 months, but the Social Security Card is an exception?

Essentially, I just want to make sure that it’s really the case, since my card has a big fat “2022” printed on it. And tbh i trust this forum more than I do my lawyer:/

First, my wife’s card is issued from the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, which was renamed in the 80s to Health and Human Services. Her card is still fine.

Second, the rules about the aging of the documents, to my knowledge, are not all six months (someone please correct me if any of this is wrong). Marriage certificates are six months. I am speculating, but perhaps in other countries you can’t get a new marriage certificate if you are divorced (you can in the US). Birth certificates are good for one year and I assume (again, pure speculation) that they may want these reissued to confirm that the child hasn’t been adopted by someone else. Non-debt and criminal background checks are only good for 90 days. It seems to me that the shortened time period for this is to make sure you meet what I consider the very basic obligations of citizenship/residency - you pay your taxes and don’t commit crimes. Seems pretty reasonable in my opinion.

The truth is that we all view the potential reasons for the timing of document expiration through the country we grew up in. For Americans, it makes little sense to get a new marriage certificate because it will always be the same. In other countries, this might not be the case.

Does your wife’s card have a date printed on it by any chance? That’s what worries me about my new card is the “2022” printed on it, I know the ones from the 80’s at least didn’t have any date.

Good to know that different documents have different dates of acceptability in Portugal! I was under the impression the 6-month thing was a blanket, general rule. Gives me hope the information my lawyer gave me that my card is fine is really true. Just doing my best to double check to make sure i don’t have to wait another couple years in line because of old docs :sweat_smile: thank you btw!!

No, no date that I can recall.

Yeah, i’m just worried since they didn’t KNOW it was a super old social security card that that’s why they accepted it, but that because mine has 2022 printed on it (lost my old one), they’ll know that its more than 6 months old, and freak out. Figured it might pay to be paranoid now than find out the hard way

Just got our biometrics appt for end of june …

Did this come after you resubmitted fresh documents, or from result of a lawsuit? If the former, when had you initially applied?

jan 28, she did…she has a post about it.

Got the appointment for June as well.

My lawyer asking me to submit documents. Based on the age of the dependents the documents are different. Like less than 18yrs or more than 18yrs.

This age is the age on the biometric date or on the application date? If anyone has an idea?

Congrats! Was it a result of the updated documents or the lawsuit? Could you share when you applied and when you updated the documents?
