Awaiting Pre-Approval (Stage 2)

The assumption is that the law applies to all visas, but the question is how it applies to the GV. Specifically, at which stage the application is considered submitted: when you apply and pay OR when you attend biometrics.

Given that most of the wait is currently before pre-approval, it will be surprising and or painful if AIMA chooses biometrics as the beginning of the application proper.

Hi all! Just when I had given up hope, today (Jan 22, 2024) I got the good news from my lawyer that I was preapproved, 755 days from my initial submission (Dec 28, 2021). I’ve updated my entry in the timeline database accordingly.

I now also see the status reflected as “Application accepted” in the SEF/AIMA online portal, but am unable to book a biometric appointment.

I would not be surprised if we see a flood of preapprovals now.

A possibly relevant story. I flew out of Italy with some tax refundable alcohol a few months ago, and to get your tax refund you need to validate that you’re taking stuff out of the country in new condition. In Malpensa airport (Milan), there was one single guy on duty dutifully checking everyone’s goods moderately thoroughly. The line was absolutely ridiculous, probably hundreds of people, and growing faster than it was being cleared.

The hour rolled over and the one guy was replaced by the next shift. The new guy started cranking out approvals with minimal verification (not to say he didn’t verify things at all, fwiw). Twenty minutes and the line was cleared out and everyone happy.

I think AIMA is the second guy in my story, going to verify things minimally at the preapproval stage and trust more thorough verification to come later.

Congratulations! Please also update us with your biometrics appointment. My application was submitted on Dec 31 so maybe a couple more months for me?

Pre-approval just received, waiting since Dec 28 2021 (me) and Sep 2022 (family).

Anyone have an idea when the next batch of biometrics dates opens?

You and your entire family was pre-approved at the same time?

No bio date set. Waiting for lawyers to respond.

They’re referring to the fact that biometrics appts are opened roughly every 3 months now, like clockwork. Very much improved over the previous random openings and a scramble to reserve a slot

This happened to my daughter and I too. My family and I applied end Oct / early Nov 2021, she applied Jan 2022 as she was only just born. She was approved alongside us in May 2022.

Hope so. Also possible there was a queue of pre approvals waiting to be released, just like with the printing of the residency cards!

As far as I can tell, the approvals for myself and family came simultaneously; the last time I logged into check was a week ago, lawyer wrote yesterday, I logged in to check, and there it was, aceite for each of us.

Keep us posted on biometrics. Hopefully yiur entire family gets the same day and location.

By my count, there are 7 people left in the NG database in December 2021 awaiting pre approval. Hopefully we see June 2022 pre approvals soon!!

Thank you for lots of good news.

They said new law will come in force and 5 year period will start to count from the application fee paying date.

Has anyone have new info about that topic? or will it effect GV applicants?
