Has anyone been successful in doing the auto-renewal for “dependent” (non-primary) residency applicants?
@bclip my dependents are still waiting for pre-approval … one of them wasn’t even born when I was first applying
Any update on the time it takes to receive the card for those who did automatic renewal after making the payment ?
GV main applicant here and it is my first renewal. My card expired yesterday 28/7. I tried the automatic renewal today and got the following error:
“Ocorreu um erro, por favor tente mais tarde. Se o problema persistir o Centro de Contacto do SEF está ao seu dispor todos os dias úteis, das 08:00 às 20:00 através de dois números – 808 202 653 (rede fixa) ou 808 962 690 (rede móvel).”
I tried several times in the weeks leading up to the expiry date and got the same message.
Ali,
Not to pile on your question, but similar situation here, except my page shows an order with status “awaiting submission” and clicking “see details” shows an order posted July 4 and one singular choice for clicking: “cancelar pedido”
Does anyone have experience with cancelling a ‘stuck’ renewal like this and just submitting again?
Thanks
-Rob
Yes I did that multiple times before one went through. If you have a pending one (that didn’t advance to “aguarda pagamento”/“awaiting payment”) it will block any further attempts, you must cancel it.
ba-Zinga!!
Assuming this might be a server overload kinda situation (or just some other resource limitation that i cant even guess at), I decided to try during very off hours… So at 00:30 today, I logged in, cancelled the ‘stuck’ order (which was a second attempt itself), filled out the form and succeeded on first submission.
the payment request email - delivered almost immediately, incidentally - was quite clear that it would be active IN 2 days and good FOR 8 days.
Thanks to the group!

P.S. Nerd bits: Used Chrome Version 125.0.6422.113 (Official Build) (arm64) on a Mac M1 running MacOS 14.5. Currently not in Portugal and did NOT use a VPN to pretend to be.
Report from another group that someone who filed automatic renewal 11 July just received their card. Valid for 3 years and says “ATIVIDADE EMPREENDEDORA”. So seems it really was converted to D2.
That’s a huge thing, thanks for sharing.
The only aspect that remains unclear for me with this conversion business is what requirements of stay will be applied to the converted “enterpreneurs”.
Reading the Mais Habitacao law does not give me any confidence that 7 days per year will be applied going forward on such D2s. If so, next renewal at 5 year mark may present a bit of a problem, unless they make it automated again.
It should. It is very clearly stated.
Anyone here received a card or know what type of envelope they will arrive in, or who is it addressed from?
I was able to pay 177.40 euros after 24 hours. Will it be a problem for me? I should not give birth earlier than 48 hours. Because when Inya first arrived and I wanted to pay, the payment ID was unknown to the bank, but I was able to pay after 24 hours.
As long as the payment ID is recognized by the bank you should be fine.
My lawyers have now received my card and sent me a scan. Validity 3 years and says “ATIVIDADE EMPREENDEDORA”.
My Lisbon attorney’s contacted me today and they have received my renewal card. I submitted renewal on 7/16, paid the fee thru Bison on 7/19, and was Concluido on the SEF website 7/24. Card arrived on 8/1. As stated in the above post, it is for a 3 year renewal, expires 7/23/27, and says ATIVIDADE ENPREENDEDORA. So I guess I’m in the Special D2 visa category.
That was fast so there are things moving along the chain. Good luck to all.
Yes same here and it’s for 3 years that was so fast .
My family completed the biometric process a year ago, on 5/5/2023, and a few months later, they requested additional documents to prove my daughter’s single status, which we sent. However, we haven’t heard anything since. What experiences do you have?
What is the next step (Order in Processing)(Pedido em Processamento)?
Replying to my own post with more data:
- July 29 00:29 Lisbon time renewal accepted. Email with payment details arrived almost immediately. Note said to wait 2 days
- July 31, late evening-ish. I got impatient and sent payment
- Today, August 1 status is “Pedido em Processamento” when looking at the details, but in the summary it says “$Resources:status_2000;” so they are missing a variable definition in their code
so, Yay!

Question : Is it certain that we will be able to renew after 3 years, or is it ambiguous or still a matter of interpretation ?
