Same for me (3 years validity)… Feels great… I hope they now allow us to renew for our families too. If anyone is successful with family or dependent renewals, please post
I am finally happy to report that I was able to successfully renewal online, and want to thank @halekao Rob for his earlier post about the steps he followed.
In my case, my lawyer had made an attempt back in January to renew. The order was hung up in ‘awaiting submission’ status. Based on advice here, I’d made one earlier attempt to cancel that submission, and then immediately attempted to resubmit - but with no success. The subsequent submission was again hung up in ‘awaiting submission’ status.
This last time, I cancelled the most recent request - BUT I waited until the next business day (after midnight Portugal time) before I attempted the resubmit. This time it worked!!! The DUC was issued immediately and my request is now in ‘awaiting payment’ status.
I’ll now wait 48 hours as indicated before I attempt the payment.
I’ve not gone back yet and searched this thread for feedback on dependent renewals, but will be eager to hear what others have accomplished.
Has anyone been able to complete online renewal for “non-Primary” applicant yet?
My attorney received card too. It says ATIVIDADE ENPREENDEDORA. When enquired about any change of rule or stay requirement. I was informed that, I will have to stay 7 full days within 1 year and then 14 full days in 2 years.
Anyone has the same information of staying for 7 days within 1 year?
@irshad.777 there is a related thread here 7 days during first year or 14 days during first two years?
The issue is the regulations are unchanged since the cards were 1 yr (1st card) 2 yrs (subsequent cards) so they say
year 1: 7 days
year 2&3: 14 days
year 4&5: 14 days
year 6&7: 14 days etc.
So under those regulations, now the cards are 2 yr (1st card) 3 yrs (subsequent cards), the stay requirement is offset from the actual card validity.
Nobody knows if AIMA actually cares to enforce this or if just doing the right total days during the card validity (e.g. 21 days for a 3 year card) is what matters.
In the past before autorenewal, when we renewed cards with documents, stay period had to be fully documented (tickets, passport stamps, boarding passes, hotels, invoices from restaurants etc.) and were thoroughly checked, so to be safe it is better to fulfill stay requirement and document it
I got my first 1 year golden visa last february. I have emailed my lawyer about renewal and … no reply. Which is pretty typical. WHEN does one need to get this renewal? Getting a certificate from the police in HK is incredibly hard - usually takes at least 3 months - so WHEN do I need to start this process? The day before expiry? The month before expiry? After expiry? I have no clue. The list of documents needed is very helpful, but I just don’t know when to start! I also have a trip planned to Portugal for about 2 weeks after my first card expires… do I need to be there in person BEFORE it expires? Surely not!!!
If you haven’t travelled to Portugal since getting your 1st card, then you must spend 2 weeks in Portugal before it expires - that’s the law … Regarding your renewal coming up next year, unfortunately too early for anyone to say… going by the track record of immigration authorities, you will only know after your card expires… but do keep checking with lawyers and this forum
Hi Poe,
Were you a GV holder and now you are a special D2 holder? Just because it is faster?
What kind of action did you (or atorny) take to change your visa category?
Are you saying that your first GV residence permit is valid for 1 yr which already expired this Feb? If this is the case, you can do auto/online renewal, without any document.
Hi RJ, congrats!
Could you kindly clarify the actual process/definition of “attempt”, “order”, and “request”?
- You went to SEF page, and you could click and proceed (although my status is still telling I am not authorized for auto-renewal)
- You received an email from AIMA, so proceeded payment
- The payment status was staying as “awaiting submission”, so you cancelled it
- Based on the advice, you resubmitted, and saw the status “awaiting submission” again
- This time, you waited enough time, then DUC changed the status to “awaiting payment”
- You will complete payment after 48h
Is that correct?
Hi Kay,
I was/am a GV holder and the SEF reclassified (2023?) individuals who invested in R/E and in my case a R/E fund into the D2 visa status with a carve out for time required in the country to maintain the visa. As I understand it. I had nothing to do with the reclassification.
Upon reading on this thread that online renewals were back up and running::
I went to SEF website , set up an account, applied to renew visa, paid the fee and 2 weeks later a new 3 year visa arrived at my attorney’s office.
So in my case things went pretty smoothly.
Best of luck, Poe
See my comments below.
Thanks for your information.
If I am the one who invested in realestate fund, my status may be automatically changed to D2 (without reclassification)?
Thanks for sharing all the story.
It sounds technically tricky…
I wish you a success of your renewal.
Thank you.
During the time when the earlier renewal requests were hung up, my lawyer was communicating with AIMA to understand (and correct) the issue. The lawyer stepped up the communication with AIMA after I’d received the AIMA email back in early July which indicated I was eligible for an online renewal. I bring this up simply because we really don’t know if it was my following the steps I followed, or it was something AIMA had done on their end, which eventually allowed me to successfully submit the online renewal request. Either way, I’m happy I was able to renew.
edit: to add, my renewal was also for the D2 (ATIVIDADE ENPREENDEDORA) and the renewal fee was Euro 177.40)
Yes Kay, I would think so. They will or already have changed your status to this special D2 status. I don’t have any dependents applying under me , so I can’t speak to that.
My 1st visa card was expiring 7/19 so I went onto the SEF website and started renewal process on 7/16.
I followed steps on SEF website (it said I was eligible to renew) and in the payment box they gave me that reduced fee of 177.40 euros. I got a .pdf from SEF with payment info. I paid thru Bison 2 days later as the .pdf instructed and The card arrived at attorney’s office in Lisbon 8/1. I was surprised after reading about all the problems but it went surprisingly well for me. Hopefully it will go smoothly for you. Best, Poe
Thanks Poe! Any information is precious at this situation…
Let’s see if my case is the same as yours:)
That’s interesting, so your visa was also changed from GV to Special D2…
Thank you again!
Yes it the visa category was changed at the renewal.
