I have accessed my account on the Tax Authority website. Under Dados de Contacto, there is no email address or phone number listed. When I attempt to enter my info, I get a message: “Por motivos de ordem técnica não é possível responder ao seu pedido, por favor tente mais tarde.” (Due to technical reasons, we are unable to respond to your request. Please try again later.) Has anyone else encountered this? Should I just try again in an hour/day/week? I would imagine my online request today to activate electronic notifications will not take effect unless I’m able to add my contact info.
That’s strange. I was able to enter my email address and phone number on the website just last night along with my request to activate electronic notifications. I am in Portugal and used a chrome browser if that matters at all.
Thanks for the input. I have tried using Chrome (from my PC), Edge (from my PC), and IOS (from my phone), and I get the same error message regardless. I also tried selecting the option to activate 2-factor authorization when I first logged in, and that produced the same error as well – upon logging in, before I even navigated to the Dados de Contacto page. I’m in the US, but I don’t see why that should matter. By the way, what format did you use for your phone #? I entered +1 415 412 **** (actual last 4 digits omitted here). It seemed to accept that after I tried other formats unsuccessfully, so I doubt that’s the problem, but please let me know how you did it.
I have a Portuguese phone number, so that might be the difference. I was able to enter my Portuguese number without a country code and the use of the + symbol. Often these government websites in Portugal get confused with symbols and more than nine digits in a phone number. That’s the only thing I can think of as to why you are having issues.
Thanks for drawing attention to the format used for the phone no.
That was the key. I used the format for my country. Basically it amounts to putting the spaces - literally a " " - in the right positions and voila ! The system accepted the data and updated it.
Now waiting to receive the codes for confirming the data on the portal.
If you plan on future engagements in Portugal, you will very quickly find a lack of local number to be a major impediment. It does not cost too much to get a local service and it will help you mary times in the future.
Fyi, I was finally successful through the brute force method – i.e., I input my info over and over until the system eventually decided to accept it for some reason. I was also able to get it to send me an email confirmation code and use it to confirm my email. I couldn’t get the system to send me a phone confirmation code, but I figure I should be ok as long as I have one electronic notification method established.
