Is it Lawsuit time? (Processing times)

And they just keep pouring onto the pile…

More than 133,000 AIMA cases pending in the Lisbon Administrative Court

  • “133,429 cases of the 6th Type - Summons for the defense of rights, freedoms and guarantees” against the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA) are pending at the Administrative Court of the Lisbon District (TACL)
  • the average number of new cases entering the court is around 500 per day, mostly related to immigrant residence permits and summonses to schedule interviews at AIMA
  • in June, in a meeting with journalists, the CSTAF reported around 50 thousand pending cases, a number that almost tripled in about three months.
  • the TACL is the only court with territorial jurisdiction to hear summons requests to AIMA and currently has six of its 35 judges exclusively assigned to these cases
  • criticized the fact that there was no communication from AIMA about the pending cases that could be extinguished because an interview had been scheduled with the authors of the actions, a situation that continues.
