Hello. I just came across Nomad/Gate while researching for a possible investment in Portugal, and it appears that some members have invested via Mercan. What has been your experience with Mercan and the associated Golden Visa journey?

My wife and I are about to make the plunge with Mercan, but before we wire over funds, wanted to reach out to see if you have any tips or pointers on validating
- The people at Mercan that we’ve been working with are truly who they say they are. Here’s who we’re working with: Carolina Prista, Luís Leitão Teixeira (the IAS lawyer), Teresa Archer.
And
- The IBAN info they provided us is truly and legitimately the correct account (our account that they opened for us).
We, like this recent poster, are a bit paranoid on this piece.

As long as the domain names match what was written above (mercan.com, mercan.pt, mercanproperties.pt or iaservices.pt) then you know they are representing Mercan/IAS. I’ve met a few people working for Mercan, but they have so many employees I don’t know anywhere near everyone who works there.
I also don’t see any reason to not trust the account number provided, as long as it’s by someone you’ve been interacting with who is using one of those email domains.
For reassurance on the IBAN, do a test transfer to see how long it takes and how you are notified.
We worked with Lois Teixeira in March and now have our deed and application submitted.

I see you wrote this several years ago. Have you been writing off your investment in your taxes since then? I’m about to do my taxes now and I’m looking for ways to decrease capital gains that I made from stock sales to fund this investment.
