for 5000 youād better get amazing tutors. but thatās good.
Yes our lawyers looked at the certificate and have it the green light!
More the issue is that it is 1) quick, 2) personalized , 3) online and 4) theyād probably never actually pass the formal CAPLE test but this gives them something to use to communicate better when in PT.
Really pleased to hear itās been green lighted by your lawyer. My lawyer also said yes they would be accepted, but she was very brief in her response which left me thinking I wanted a bit more assurance on that point, before signing up, spending thousands (we are a family of four so weāre looking at EUR 20K just for the A2 language certificates for citizenship applications for the four of us - which is really insane when you think about it, and all because there are no online A2 courses with certificate that are just say 2 hours per week instead of 15/20 hours per week), studying for a year and a half, making an application then being told err no these certificates are of no use. And I thought that the language was going to be the easiest bit of the GV process!
Hi Larry,
What type of certificate is it? Is it SIGO, or just from the school?
Thanks,
Dan.
It is a PLA certificate thru Escola Professional Cristóvão Colombo, Setúbal (Polo).
Thank you, Larry!
Dan.
For me the PLA course would be overkill. Iām currently able to handle most day-to-day needs. (Dealing with Ibredrola via phone was another matter⦠but I digress).
Hence am thinking a simple CIPLE prep-course and then do the test.
Am wondering if anyone has any experience with: A2 Portuguese Language Test - CIPLE exam ā Portuguese Language Lessons
Thanks All
@ottodelupe - my wife and I took the prep course with Emma at https://www.portugueselanguagelessons.net/. It was great and tailored specifically for the exam with time taken for conversation, writing, and listening. She also has the class do a sample test which was helpful.
In addition to the class, we used the sample tests that LEPO created that are very good. LEPO also has a prep course but it didnāt exist or was new when we were looking so I canāt speak for it, but their sample exams are very well done. https://www.learneuropeanportugueseonline.com/copy-of-prep-course
We both passed and felt well prepared (the listening piece is very tough but Emma gave good test taking advice.). We took some specific A1/A2 online courses prior but if you want test prep, Emmaās course at https://www.portugueselanguagelessons.net/ was terrific and you canāt go wrong.
I would recommend not to trust your lawyer with 100%. There are lot of examples, that those gave us wrong advices. Also many GV lawyers came from real estate agencies, and not really were specialized in immigration law before golden visa program. Check list of PLA courses yourself, and if that courses are not there either use other or sit for exam.
Exam is not difficult. Practiceportuguese + book + talking group and you will pass exam easily.
In case the certificate is not right, it is very probable that it will not be possible to supply new certificate fast, and thus the application may be rejected.
Does anyone have any idea when the schedule for CIPLE 2025 exams will be published? I keep checking but nothing available yet.
Should be around mid January
Thanks Olga. That saves me checking every day for a while at least
To be a bit more precise, around publishing date of Nov test results. Suggest you start to check from 5 Jan. I did same this Jan and will do the same.
I found this tool beyond my current limited Portuguese, but it may help those of you actively studying. You can try it for free, and thereās a 30% off āblack Fridayā deal running now if you like it.
Positives:
- Customised conversations based on your level and interests. So you can chat about topics youāre actually interested in (i.e. more motivation to engage).
- Claims to handle European Portuguese.
Would be curious to know what people with better Portuguese skills think of it.
For grins I tried their teaser conversation. The accent (to my ear) is European, not Brazilian. As to the actual quality of instruction/pedagogy, that I donāt know. My guess is that weāre talking A1/2, at least from the teaser sample.
Iāve been following this discussion for a while now because we moved to Portugal in July on GVs and - irrespective of the start date for the five-year count - we will apply for citizenship at the earliest date. Therefore I will need a language certificate.
Iāve decided to do the EdPro course so hereās the current information. I applied on the web site on 14 October uploading the requested documents and received an automated email in acknowledgement. Nothing then until November 18 when I received a Whatsapp offering me two classes, morning or afternoon, starting in January. I asked for the start dates and timings. The morning class starts Tuesday 7th while the afternoon class starts Tuesday 28th. Itās four days a week with most classes lasting 3.5 hours starting at 9.30am. Every other Friday is 4 hours to total 150 hours so I will be done by the middle of March. I chose the morning class.
Today, 21st November, I received an introductory email with a lot of background information about how you have to be present and participatory in the classes with your camera on. You can only miss a maximum of 10%, so 15 hours, of classes. There will be a maximum of 20 students. The email confirms thereās no CIPLE exam. Yay.
The fee is ā¬700 and you have to pay by bank transfer to a Portuguese bank account to secure your place. this I did immediately and sent them the payment confirmation.
Iām happy with this solution to both (a) the citizenship language requirement; and (b) accelerate my use of the language given that we live here now. The fee seems reasonable and the only real commitment is the time which I will have in abundance in Jan-Mar while the weather is poor. Back to school it is then.
Hello @richn4, I elected the same path as you in July this year. What you describe is exactly how itās going to play out. In the last 2 weeks, I felt it was a test of endurance. It got really tough for me, as one has to find another 3 hours of brain power after a full dayās work. I took it a week at a time, and the teacher we had for our course was extremely empathetic, jovial and patient. One thing to keep in mind is that the grammar part will get very complicated very quickly, and what one would be doing over a yearās learning is compressed into a few weeks.
Enjoy the course, and the reward is that the language requirements are met, which is a pretty big thing.
We are doing the same, except our class starts Dec 2. Might need some moral support during the dark days of grammar!
Ok. I just read through this thread and a lot of other online resources.
So for a family of five, with younger kids (9, 12, 14) living in the US right now. I am thinking I would have my kids take the CIPLE-Jovem just to have a goal to work to. Has anyone here done that? How did it go and who had child friendly instruction?
It seems like Edpropt is the go-to but is the quality of instruction any good? Like it feels like a lot of people just see this as a hurdle but I would like to get real language skills out of it.
Ciplemaster seems pretty pricey to do for five people even if it is the luxury option.
