Portuguese level test |Find out your level in Classgap for example.
I already had my first class with a private tutor. Looks like some 10 hours will be enough to ātransformā Spanish B1-B2 to Portuguese A2⦠Thatās much less expensive and definitely much less time consuming option for me comparing to the online classes which can be accepted for the citizenship application purposesā¦
I donāt know if I trust the level given on those online multiple choice tests. It seems too easy to make an educated guess. (I got B2)
The actual exam you have to carry out a conversation, write paragraphs, listen to recordings etc. That definitely takes practice.
Yeah none of those work if you have kids at school AND work 9am-5pm so youāre basically busy 8am-6pm every day.
Unless I use vacation hours to work only part time (4 hour days) for 8 weeks, which would cost me 4 weeks of vacation. I guess thatās my backup plan if I fail the CIPLE test.
Thanks. It says Iām A2, but given Iām only halfway through the A1 level course I donāt think thatās the case! Also reading and comprehension is typically the easiest I find - thereās no way I would have been able to complete this exercise if it was listening or if Iād been asked to write these phrases from memory.
Does anyone know if CAPLE is actually planning to schedule A2 CIPLE exams in countries outside of Portugal this year? I know they have in the past, but as of now they have only opened registrations for exams in Portugal.
I called the consulate in my home city (they have hosted exams before) but they didnāt have any info for 2025 and told me to email CAPLE (I have emailed CAPLE but I am not holding my breath for a quick answer )
When I checked they were also open for Spain. I guess each country may have its own schedule
It is apparently the same date in Portugal and the participating countries abroad.
I checked that one can already register in Portugal and Spain, but many of the other countries dont seem to be open yet for inscriptions. They fill up fast for A2, so you might want to keep looking frequently for the city/country you are located in.
I donāt know why they donāt just increase the capacity
Or is this a backdoor way to limit the number of citizenship applications?
They have. Five years ago, the exams IIRC were 3 times a year, Lisbon. Now they are not only in Lisbon but other cities in Portugal and 3 times in May, July and November in Portugal + elsewhere.
Thatās an improvement but I mean why canāt they open up more slots dynamically? E.g. I heard that in 2024, all the California slots were booked within 45 minutes on Jan 3rd. Why didnāt they just open more slots for the same year given the high demand?
They charge for the test so I assume theyāre not losing money running the tests. And forcing people to fly from California to Boston just to take a test is crazy inefficient and bad for the environment!
Update on my earlier post. I did hear back from CAPLE, and they said that each international exam centre decides separately if they want to open registrations for each of the published 2025 dates for A2-CIPLE exams based on demand and available resources.
The CAPLE contact who responded to my email said that each centre has to make that decision by the end of January. She said the best thing to do is email the contact for each specific centre to find out their plans. They are listed on the web page below (on the map, click on the city you are interested in and it will take you to page with an email contact for each centre):
I recently passed the CIPLE exam, so share my impression. The listening part is very difficult, as everyone says. It was much harder than the educational recording files. I would advise preparing for that section enough (by Youtube, podcast, etc). Personally I was worried about the speaking part, but my score wasnāt bad. I recommend talking with local people as much as possible, and have mockup sessions regularly on the expected topics (published on CIPLE website). The writing part is not very difficult. To prepare for that, I forced myself to write a diary or short descriptions on common topics. It is better to use a pen and paper for your practice, following the actual situation of exam. The reading & grammar parts are relatively easy, if you study with a major textbook. Good luck to all:)
@kay.singapore overall how many hours do you think you spent preparing? Would it have been faster to take one of the 150 hour PLA courses?
definitely yes
I joined a PLA class for 1h as a trial, but the level was very low and teaching progress was so slow. I realized that I will not learn much about the language even after 15oh. I canāt believe that finishing its class is equivalent to passing the CIPLE. Attending a PLA is a safer approach to satisfy the requirement, but you may get frustrated or feel itās a waste of time, eventually canāt improve your language skill comprehensively which you need for the actual life in Portugal. (Regarding the hours I spent, sorry, I am not sureā¦)
We have done biometric and are waiting for our card. Is it true that PLA online courses requires residence card?
No, you just need to show them the proof that you have completed the biometrics and are wating for the residence card.
I am in the same situation and was able to register with EdPro showing them the above and providing my passport details.
I enrolled in and completed the course without having done my biometrics (or having a residence card). At the time of enrollment I explained the situation with delays at AIMA (which they certainly know about). In my case, only the NIF and a copy of my passport was sufficient.
Thatās great. Thank you!
