Why do you say that? AIMA accepts documents that are apostilled instead of being certified by a Portugal lawyer. Is there a reason that doesn’t apply to PLA certificate?

@portugalwanderer Because the CIPLE certificate is issued in Portugal and being submitted to a Portuguese authority, it doesn’t require an apostille. Apostilles are used only to verify foreign documents for use in Portugal. A foreign notary can’t certify a Portuguese document as authentic. They can only certify that a document was presented to them. That’s a legal distinction that matters here. For Portuguese legal purposes, certification has to be done by a Portuguese notary, lawyer, or if you don’t want to leave your home country, you can go to a Portuguese consulate.

That makes sense.

Thanks for the update. Depending on the votes this month, we could be either months or years away from applying. And right, hopefully the requirements don’t change, either!

An alarming amount of my time over the past six years has been occupied trying to make sense of Portuguese bureaucracy. Sharing that info here somewhat alleviates the pain …

You’re so close now though, right?

So close. It’s being submitted on Monday morning …

If you are really unlucky (like me), the Portuguese embassy with responsibility for your country is in another country - and oh they are shooting people in the streets - but AIMA won’t accept the Portuguese embassy’s scanned copy and need the physical copy of the certification done by the Portuguese embassy - and yes we did finally manage to get it but it was nerve wracking!)

Party on!!!

Any idea how the change in naturalization laws affects the “language” (or ties) requirement to Portugal? Do the old methods still hold sway or do we need to pursue another avenue?

Yesterday the spots for the CIPLE 2026 test opened in Lisbon and Braga (3-4 dates each city). Today…poof…gone. Not sure if it’s some glitch or they are already full. Chaves, Funchal and Ponta Delgada are up today. Haven’t seen anything in US yet (will also go for Mexico City since it’s close). If you need to take the test…better jump on a date.

CIPLE 2026 spots don’t appear to last more than a day once they open up. I haven’t seen anything in the US yet either. I managed to snag a spot in Toronto when they appeared yesterday. Today it looks like Madrid opened spots for all three 2026 dates.

Wow. I’ve been checking every day since the dates were announced and never saw a Portugal opening. I see some spots in Spain as of now.

they literally have disappeared after 24 hours

Glad I jumped on Ponta Delgada for my wife and I in July, damn.

Gotta put our noses to the grindstone, good luck everyone

Many options are coming out daily… Even I saw February 7th in Lisbon… however they are disappearing fast. Now options for all 3 international dates are available in Spain… I hope the march-april dates will appear for Portuguese locations soon too…

Some info from Lisbon University

Now I see why the slots are not visible on the CAPLE website (see “início de inscrições”)…

I took the CIPLE in November in Madrid and today I learned that I have passed. I am honestly shocked, I was certain I had failed but I passed with a “bom”. Good luck to anyone yet to sit the exam. I am not even certain they score it, my scores were nothing near what I was expecting, and I am convinced they just made up numbers.

As is emblazoned on my family’s coat of arms, “don’t try to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.” It’s right below where it also says “I’d rather be lucky than good.”
