If you buy investment funds or real estate, you can then sell it later, whether or not you get anything from the state.

Portugal’s Bar Association (Ordem dos Advogados) has warned that staff shortages, inadequate digital systems and inconsistent procedures at AIMA are obstructing lawyers and jeopardising immigrants’ rights
…The agency’s online portal was also found to contain incorrect, incomplete or outdated information, making it difficult for lawyers to follow cases or provide clients with reliable advice.
…The association also identified significant disparities between AIMA offices, with different procedures applied to substantially identical cases, creating legal uncertainty and unequal treatment.

AIMA recorded significant growth in its workforce between July 2024 and July 2026, representing an effective increase of 17 per cent across the organisation as a whole.
…The growth is particularly significant at AIMA EPE, the organisation dedicated to the technological modernisation and digital transformation of services, which saw a 35 per cent increase in its Human Resources Department over the same period. This area focuses on the design and development of digital platforms, technological solutions and multidisciplinary support teams, enabling AIMA to move forward more swiftly in implementing modern, efficient and citizen-centred systems.
…The projections for September confirm this positive trend, with the overall workforce showing an increase of around 20 per cent and AIMA EPE achieving growth of 48 per cent, which significantly strengthens the institution’s technological capacity and digital response.

My bet is that the problem will continue like this regardless of what Aima has been trying to promise. After 2-3 years from now, Aima will be probably dissolved and replaced/reformed by a new name with a lot of promises (just exactly how they transformed from Sef to Aima). Then the cycle repeats itself (fees increase, processing time still takes years, no response to emails/phone calls, and continue promising to improve,…).

waiting for my re appointment as I missed my appointment due to the Middle East war, ( force majeure)- and it has been now 5 months, nothing !!!
It is clear that the current administration doesn’t want any more immigrants or neutralizations. This is why three isn’t enough budget to improve AIMA. This won’t change until the position of the administration or the administration itself changes. It is a waste of time to complain about it. We just need to wait. This is how the world works.
