I know the process was an expedited (“urgent”) one, but I’m not sure any urgency was argued other than the facts that SEF refused to reschedule the biometrics after I missed a second opportunity and that I needed some certainty soon as I planned to retire soon.
I’ll go over my emails with the lawyer to see if there was anything else that was mentioned.
Hi Tammy, what a coincidence! I just received my lawyer’s email saying my application has been approved.
It took four months from the date of the biometrics for this approval to come through. This is because complications arose in getting and submitting the GST receipts from my renovation contractor and evidence of their having the licence to do the renovation. Also, SEF asked for police certificates for both my wife and myself from our country. We haven’t lived there for decades and hence it was a bit difficult to arrange this from abroad.
I’m hoping the instructions for payment will be received soon, and once I make the payment, AIMA will comply with the second part of the court’s ruling about issuing the permit within 90 days.
I was trying to compel SEF to schedule the biometrics. I had failed to schedule one when first given the option to do so in June 2019 right after submitting the application. Then due to the Covid travel restrictions, I missed to appear for the one SEF scheduled in late 2021. Repeated requests for another appointment were not fruitful.
The court ordered SEF to both schedule the biometrics within three months months, and complete the entire process within three months of receipt of all documents following the biometrics. I’m not quite sure my lawyer had requested the second relief. It could be a very welcome bonus.
AIMA received the final documents from my lawyer two weeks ago and I was informed of their positive decision a few hours ago.
