Hi everyone! I’m drafting a survey that I plan to send out to our email list this week. The goal is to map out what the potential impact would be if the Nationality Law amendments are implemented as proposed—and hopefully get some useful data for trying to influence Portuguese politicians to more seriously consider the indirect impact the changes would have on the GV program.
This version of the survey is definitely still a draft—so I’d love to get everyone’s feedback on the questions, the available responses, the explanations, typos, etc.
It’s only two pages long, and which questions you are asked depend on whether you have applied for the Golden Visa or if you are still considering/in the process of applying.
Here’s the current draft:
Please let me know your feedback directly in this thread!
Completed and added suggested questions to the effect of: To what degree did your perception/reliance upon Portugal as having a stable legal environment and commitment to the program influence your decision to invest?
I’ve made some tweaks to the survey and published the final version here:
I realize several people already submitted responses to the draft survey. If it’s not too much of an ask, would you mind submitting the final version as well? Unfortunately I can only include the responses to the final survey when doing the analysis.
Thanks for doing this @tkrunning! Just a suggestion that if they are adamant about the Nationality Law changes, maybe it would be productive to request that for ARI Permanent Residency they start counting the 5 years from the date of application instead of the date of approval. Maybe it could be a consolation prize the right wing pro business parties wouldn’t be as opposed to
The amount of time(approx 3 months for the UK) it takes to gather all the documents from the resident’s Government departments, get them validated and then translated before GV application plus the investment lead time mean people are committing way before the GV application date so any protections should include that additional lead time IMO.
I’m currently working on an article based on the survey results, but for those interested in seeing the results you can access those here:
This report shows the results first for all participants, then also split into ARI holders (those who received their permit), applicants (anyone still waiting for the first card), and prospective applicants. That’s why each question show four different results.
The visualization makes me a bit dizzy. It alternates between vertical bars and horizontal bars for no good reason?
And under “Please describe briefly how the uncertainty surrounding the proposed changes has impacted your life to date.” it seems if you scroll down it just repeats the same list over and over … the timestamp increases then jumps back. Weird!
It took me a moment to figure out what US sport (other than football/soccer) “own goal” could apply to. After ten minutes of thinking, I came up with hockey.
The reason it took me ten minutes is either because I’m not that imaginative or because hockey is not particularly popular in the US (although more popular the further north you go). Even money on which one is correct.
