What are the most economical ways to transfer fund from US to portugal?

Not sure what you mean by “unlike in the US” – I have a USD and Euro account at my US bank… I converted Euros years ago when I made the investment and the conversion rate was really strong and simply wire directly from my Euro account when I need to pay fees, etc.

With Bison, you also have an IBAN for USD. The easiest way (and very economical) is to send USD to PT and get Bison to convert into EUR. From memory the rate they charge is 0.2% (so, EUR1,000 on EUR500k), which is very good.

Hello! would you be comfortable sharing which bank you used??

Sorry, I don’t understand the question  you send USD to Bison and they convert in-house!

Ok, I over generalized. Multi currency bank accounts are very uncommon in the US. Wise sums it up well: How to open a foreign currency account in the US - Wise On the other hand, most banks in Europe offer multi currency bank account.

I also read that Scwab functions in Portugal. Has anyone had experience with them?

To your point re Wise - I had to go through the effort of showing the exact name match as you describe. This was a PITA, as Wise wants my middle name, and my US bank does not use it at all. Hence a mismatch. I had to submit some paperwork from my US bank to Wise to get it all sorted out. Since then, no problems.
