Unless I’m mistaken, the TC has never before been overridden by Parliament, in the history of post-democracy Portugal. So, while possible, it would be a sort of political crossing of the Rubicon, so to speak; and I am not sure that PSD necessarily has the appetite for it. After all, using this power for the first and only time in history, to overrule a hypothetical TC ruling which defends the human rights of immigrants, is not how one probably wants to go down in the history books.
I’ve also reached out to Mercan see if they would willing to contribute. Maybe others could reach out to big GV industry players they are connected to and see if they would contribute?

I’m unclear what happens if they are “overridden” by a supermajority and the law gets published. I would think the law is still just as unconstitutional and would still be just as vulnerable to attack in individual cases. It isn’t a constitutional amendment after all and also can’t change EU law inasmuch as that’s at play. There’s a whole separate process for constitutional amendments in the Portugal constitution. So, other than delaying the inevitable nullification of the law, I don’t see what the publication over the objection of the TC would achieve for the government.
I’m still not all that optimistic that the TC will even rule in our favour. There’s a good chance they just allow it to be promulgated as is.
There wasn’t another option so I went with the €500 option - just to clarify I wouldn’t be able to spare €500, my limit would be around €100.
This has already got to 10 people so I think eventually the 10k can be distributed among more people, thereby making the per head contribution less.

Surely between NG and the WA groups, those who are interested would be a significant number and bring the cost per “family” down.

@kgoff74 looks like we are pretty damn near 20 people! Could you get Liberty Legal / @madalenamonteiro to give us an IBAN we can send money to, and have them start work on this since the deadline is so near?

I would sure think that the community that has so much invested emotionally, logistically, and economically would find minor contributions to this an easy ask and the potential scale of that pool could be considerable. However, as time is of the essence and the organizers seem to have reached critical mass, its time to roll. I am personally fine with the current contribution and to simplify the task for Liberty/Madeleina, would not expect a refund if the amount collected dropped the cost per family. Now that critical mass is established, families can contribute what they can/want. If funds are in excess of current need, they can be used for whatever the next challenge is. Aside from the specific and time bound need here, this is exciting to see this community organize itself economically and up its self-advocacy game. Rock on.

The Liberty Legal has already agreed to give a pro rata refund if more people join and more money is raised than is needed actually!
