2025 New Law and Rules for Nationality

As you will all have seen in the news today, the Portuguese Government has announced that it will increase the period for granting nationality as follows: 7 years of legal residence for people from Portuguese-speaking countries. And 10 years for people of other countries.

Assuming the law will pass, how will it impact the categories listed below?

(a) those who have already applied for nationality;
(b) those who have obtained the GVR cards but not yet applied for nationality;
(c) those who have done biometrics but not yet received their GVR cards; and
(d) those who have entered the system but not yet done buometrics.

Best case scenario: Golden Visa applicants will be exempted altogether but that does not look very likey. But if they do not exempt golden visa from it, the current price of half a million euros to enter the GVR program will become too steep when considered alongwith the 10-year timeline as opposed to the previous 5-year timeline. That gives some hope I suppose.
