Has anyone successfully obtained an accepted Portuguese language certificate while living outside Portugal and without attending a CAPLE test centre?
I’m planning ahead for a future Portuguese citizenship application through marriage (my husband is a Portuguese citizen). One of the ways I hope to demonstrate ties to the Portuguese community is by learning the language and obtaining a recognised credential. I’m confident in my ability to be able to learn the language to an A2 level, I’m just stressed about getting a formal credential that will be accepted in my application.
I’ve already researched CAPLE/CIPLE testing locations. I live in Perth, Australia so unfortunately, the nearest testing centres available to me would require very long and expensive travel (Sydney or Singapore) which is not really a viable option, so I’m specifically looking for other alternatives.
Online PLA courses sound great, but I do not have a NIF, I have never visited Portugal yet or been resident there. Therefore I’m not eligible for any courses that have NIF as a requirement.
What I’m trying to find out is:
- Has anyone successfully obtained an A2 level Portuguese language certificate that was accepted by Portuguese authorities for citizenship purposes while living outside Portugal?
- Did you complete an online course or obtain an alternative recognised certification?
- If so, which provider or institution issued the certificate?
I’m interested in hearing from people who were in a similar situation and successfully navigated this requirement from abroad.
If anyone has any other tips for things I could do to prove ties to the Portuguese community I would love to hear then. I’d much rather apply for citizenship at the 3 years of marriage milestone rather than have to wait until the 6 year mark.
Thanks in advance.
