A2 Portuguese Language Certificate course

That I don’t know. I am on my first one, fighting with AIMA to correct the NIF

Yeah I know lots of us are taking CIPLE, but we’re not Portuguese citizens … are you?

I’m pointing out the irony that, like most things in Portugal, citizens can use their card number instead of passport, but why would any Portuguese citizen take CIPLE?

Yes.

Your passport number also changes on renewal.

No, I am not yet… However, TĆtulo de ResidĆŖncia works (almost) as a Portuguese citizenship card here, at least at hospitals, FinanƧas, etc. I just recently used it in Spain with no issues, though some accounts from other travellers through some EU airports point to its limitations.

What were you able to use it for outside Portugal?

Check into hotels. Somehow they preferred it over the passport.

I have seen people using both options. Myself I’ve used residence card, but I saw as well the people of my nationality who have used the passport.

Hi lloyd, can I ask how you are finding the course? Have you completed it yet?

Hello,
we haven’t completed yet, we have done about 40 hours so far, that’s only because I have been travelling alot for work and they have been super flexible to accommodate my travels.
But Joana, the classes and homework have all been great and most importantly Joana has been patient and persistent with me (as the difficult student I am).
Recommend you have a chat with them and share what your needs are. They also do group classes where you commit a certain hours per week.

All the best

Hi everyone! Just submitted our GV applications and eager to start with the language qualification. Does anyone know when you’re permitted to sign up for an online course such as EdPro or CIPLE Master? Any guidance and referrals would be much appreciated.

You can enroll with edpro once you get your residency card. (Your PLA A2 certificate will be registered under your residency card in SIGO governmental official platform
No rush You have time since you start the journey.

You might have 10 years and during those 10 years maybe they’ll change the language requirement from A2 to B1 or B2 so not sure if rushing to do A2 helps at all.

It’s my understanding the requirements remain under the (old laws) based on your application submission.

Once your application for citizenship is in you should be grandfathered into existing citizenship law.

There’s discussion on whether that also applies to the GV application but that seems far from certain.

Thanks, Kingo! I figured that was the case, but was hoping I could apply sooner. Looks like I’ll just have to wait the 16+ months until we received the biometrics call!

Understood. Yeah, based on recent articles it seems like GV might be spared, but we’ll see how things shake out with the new administration.

Here is the thread about this issue. No one knows anything at this point, but given no one said anything in support of grandfathering GV, the general consensus is it goes by the negative scenario for now.

Hi Blake, the courses are 2 months duration
(Intensive online)

Gramps help meee

RIP…

One thing to bear in mind with the courses, is that even if the language requirement remains at A2, there is likely to be an additional Portuguese culture test. We don’t yet know how difficult the test will be, but it will highly likely be in Portuguese, and you will probably need to have an A2 or higher level of Portuguese in order to understand or pass it, I’d guess. So you’re probably going to need to learn Portuguese anyway…
