AIMA Tacit Approval

Could you briefly tell me how you did the tacit approval? My renewal biometrics were in December 2025 and I’ve still not gotten approval.

Thanks

In the interest of diluting “alternative facts” with the truth, “Deferimento Tácito” is an explicit legal process to force summary approval of a renewal after 60 business days of inaction. Here is a detailed guide to tacit approval:

Here is an official government page documenting tacit approval:

Thank you, that was exactly what I needed.

Our attorney handled it for us. Looks like you got some detailed advice from someone else!

It’s not the panacea that people may think it is. My lawyer sent a registered letter to AIMA months ago giving demand for tacit approval. No response. That’s not to say you shouldn’t do it, because you definitely should. Just don’t expect it to be immediately effective.

It’s possible that it has been effective for some people with ARI, but I have not seen any reports of this yet. If you have received a certificate of tacit approval, could someone post a redacted copy to help others?

This discussion of tacit approval is way off topic here.
@tkrunning can you create a new thread for tacit approval or move these messages to an existing topic.

I hope you acted quickly. The web-based feature for requesting tacit approval was deleted from the gov.pt site today. A summary still appears if you search for it using their integrated search feature, but the link now redirects to a 404.

There are two saved copies on archive.org, but there’s some javascript that prevents the page from loading.

The deletion of the tacit approval page seems to have been temporary; perhaps there was a failed web site update. It appears to be working again now.

I just did it yesterday. It’s still there. However, my understanding is that it’s only valid for in PT, not Schengen.

I had a friend on D7 request tacit approvals, which he received, and then his cards came shortly thereafter. Coincidence? Maybe, or maybe it shook his processes loose.

In any case, I used the web form to request them for my dependents (golden visa). Within a week or so I got the tacit approvals. Then the next day I got an email from Aima for one of my dependents asking us to resubmit the certified passport copy from our fall renewal appointments. So maybe it did “shake it loose!”

TBD if we actually get cards. But feels like some progress.

Is there any way to use the web form without the CMD?

You’re Golden Visa correct? Were you in the pre-February 2026 renewal and didn’t have a QR code on your payment receipt?

Thanks

I started with a GV but live here permanently and luckily when I renewed, it switched to the lower rate. I’m in the pre-July 1 group that required an in-person meeting.
