AIMA's new GV process

From comments I’ve seen on other threads, AIMA is asking that lawyers flag these cases to them.

Can you explain more about the passport being enough instead of the tax number? Just a copy of my passport info page?

Of course it’s not enough :man_facepalming:
You’d need to provide your home country’s tax ID document (in your case SSN), apostilled and translated/notarized.

Apostilled Social Security card? There’s no official’s signature on the card.

hi. Has anyone updated documents at AIMA website in 2025 and got appointment for biometric from AIMA after 15th of january?

Yes, you get a notary to sign the printout of your SSN, and then place apostille on his signature.

Who does the apostille? State Department or to local office in the state?

…and when they do, ensure they put ā€˜ARI’ in the subject line

And, in addition to putting ARI in the subject line, include all the following information (from the last meeting transcript):

Full name, date of birth, nationality and the application number, which is the number that appears in the top right-hand corner of the ARI Portal

I signed a W9 with my SSN filed in in front of a notary and got an apostille on that. It shows the ridiculousness of the whole thing as the apostille is only verifying the notary is a notary but the document was accepted.

Where did you get the apostille from for this document?

Not sure where you are located but in the US, if it’s a Federal department (i.e., FBI criminal background check) the US State Department gives it to you. If it’s a state document (birth, marriage certificate) then the Secretary of State for the state that issued gives it to you. In the case of my W9, I submitted to the California Secretary of State since that agency oversees notaries in the state.

No, Tommy, that wasn’t necessary for U.S. applicants. Just a copy of SSN card was sufficient for me. Nobody will apostille this document in the U.S., and I don’t think notaries will certify it either.

State Apostille’s will verify the Notary is who that say they are. Notaries will witness your signature attesting the SSN card is a true an unaltered card.

Well, I didn’t have to go through these gyrations. It might be better to simply claim that this is not available. Just FYI.

It is the same in the UK for the NIN - notary signature first, then apostille.
I understand that one may get lucky and still approved by AIMA without an apostille, but I did not want to give them any chance

If I recall correctly what I did was write a statement to the effect of ā€œI certify this is a true and correct photocopy of my authentic social security cardā€, got that notarised, and they took it.

Sorry at what point one needs to provide SSN numbers? Is it for the in-person appointment?

That is exactly what I did. It was also accepted
