Has anyone requested permanent residency at an AIMA appointment that was scheduled as a “renewal” appointment? And successfully submitted? I’m having trouble getting a PR appointment by traditional means (i.e., emailing geral@aima.pt), but since there is now the ability for ARI card holders to request “renewal” appointments on https://contactenos.aima.gov.pt/contact-form, I am wondering if I can simply schedule a renewal, show up, and request PR (with all the required docs, obviously). Thoughts?
I’ve seen a report of at least one person converting to a PR during a renewal appointment. That was the “regular” PR, however, as they were living in Portugal.
I haven’t seen any datapoints for conversion to the GV PR, but it’s possible that it could work the same way.
Oh, that sounds promising. I live in Portugal and would rather convert my GV temporary residence to a normal PR. My lawyer says that sort of conversion is possible, but she doesn’t have any data points for people going to GV renewal appointments and then converting.
I’ll check on this too. I’m in a strange position of being able to apply for citizenship in October as long as they don’t amend the law before then, but have a GV renewal due in November. Depending on the political winds, it might make sense to convert to try convert to PR in November.
Can we merge this thread with the following, as you guys are saying the same thing in both
That is similar to ours. On June 20th, unfortunately, I became eligible for citizenship and applied (I hope that the new law won’t attempt to maintain the June 19th retroactivity clause…) and permanent residency a week later. We started requesting PR in April and that’s why we were wondering.
Haha wow I thought my timeline was galling, but June 20th eligibility is quite the twist of fate. The consensus seems to be that retroactive aspect of the reform is unconstitutional, but I know that’s no consolation until it’s confirmed. Best of luck to both of us!
