That was SEF/AIMA’s strategy since changes to the law in the beginning of 2022. Sometime they appear to skip some since now applications are routed to many AIMA centres which process them at different speed, but the overall chronology appears to be correct. I would not base approval expectations based on the date of biometrics as they are too random.
Just catching up with this thread… Congrats Roman! Hope we’ll still see you around here even with your approval!
And let’s try to nudge that Thomas counter up further this year!
Feel free to DM me whenever y’all find yourself near Lisbon. Since we’re moving to Portugal I hope to be able to meet many more of you in person going forward!
Just back in town (Olisipo) too, and jet-lag, don’t ya just love it …
But it’s dawning on the river now and seems more trampers are waiting to get into dock… a nice ambiance for the suffering.
And it helps looking forward to the TK Running “welcome drink” when the January cohort (finally) gets their cards…
No lawsuit filed. DUC has been issued and paid.
Just a small question: For the AIMA fees, I paid via my online banking to the State of Portugal with the reference number in the DUC. However, there’s another column which indicates something like Taxpayer Number (NIF), just want to double confirm here that I should input my NIF right? The lawyer said so but I didn’t see any other Datapoint here.
It looks like I may actually be getting close. No word since biometric Jan 23, 2023, no lawsuit. Thanks for maintaining the Lisbon tracker!

Thomas- I dont remember if I asked this on Nomadgate: but is there any way to pay the DUC with a US credit card? Alternatively, is there a daily limit on the amount that can be transferred to Portugal and converted to Euros via Wise?
Yes, the location where you did biometric really affect your final approval time. Porto seems always been the fastest location for final approval, less than one year after biometric.
Great news! My GV was finally approved as of yesterday, Lisbon office nonetheless! Our lawyers noted, “We are glad to inform that, due to our Subpoena before the Portuguese administrative courts, your GV application has been approved by AIMA.”
I have very similar situation: apllied in 2021 in Lisbon, biometry in Jun 2023.
No updates after… lawyers stop answering 6 months ago.
Could you please share contacts of yours please?
We utilized LVP Advogados. They’ve been “fine,” but we’ve had at least four different lawyers handling our GV process. They also were the ones that submitted a subpoena to AIMA back in July 2024.
