Does Anyone know, what are the rules when it comes to returning to portugal after card has been expired and renewal has been applied?
Example - Card expire on December 1st 2026 Applicant renews in October 2026 and leave portugal. Can they return to Portugal after Dec 1st 2026 with proof of old card and proof of renewal application? Particular route to choose? land in Portugal as first port of entry into Schengen Zone.
From what I’ve read the recommendation is to bring your expired card and evidence of renewal and make Portugal your portal of entry. If you enter through another country you run the risk of the entry agent being unfamiliar with the visa situation and following the visa rules associated with your passport. You could be stamped in on a tourist visa or just turned away.
is there a guaranteed way to make sure you are not denied boarding? My home country is pretty shitty and they really don’t like people leaving, even with valid visa they ask a lot of questions before boarding.
Seems like you are asking two different questions: 1) will your country allow you to board a plane with an expired visa? - which you or someone in your country would probably know better; and 2) will Portugal will allow you in with the expired visa? Number 2 is pretty well-answered here…if you have the card and the receipt showing payment for the renewal no one (as far as I have read) has reported a problem entering Portugal.
I think some airlines have a department for this you could call/email in advance and describe your situation. If email maybe you could get paper trail of evidence that you’ve been cleared for the flight?
