Citizenship/ PR Application - Golden Visa route

Hi guys,

I submitted my citizenship application last November, and it is currently at stage. I understand that this process can take some time, so there’s no rush. However, I would like to ask a few questions, and I would appreciate any shared experiences.

  1. I received my first card in June 2016 and have renewed it a total of three times. For the first five years, I followed the rule of staying 35 days in the country. However, I didn’t stay in the country due to COVID-19, and my fourth card was successfully renewed online without any issues. This year, I stayed in the country for 16 days. I’m curious if the length of my stay will affect the outcome of my application. Some people say that my stay is not sufficient, but I thought the golden visa route was different from others?

  2. Is it necessary to have a valid residency permit throughout the citizenship process?

  3. If it is necessary, does anyone have any advice on how to apply for a permanent residency application? It seems difficult to get an appointment, as my lawyer has mentioned.

Thank you for any insights you can provide!

  1. Yes - you need a valid residence permit at the time they assess your Citizenship.
  2. You can register online with AIMA via a lawyer - but only the main Golden Visa holder, not the family yet. https://contactenos.aima.gov.pt/contact-form
I registered a monyth or so and I’ve just got an appointment in early October.
    Good luck.
